Try Reinstalling the Driver, If still doesn't work, and you done all what Windows says, it must be a hardware problem, if is new and have warranty then call HP, if not then you would need to by a microphone.

Or how about a Windows problem?
Is the registry corrupted or something(I wouldn't know, I'm only a lowly DOS user :P)?
