Ok, there's a couple of stuff about the US I've been wondering about:

1. Are there many christian extremists in the south?
2. Is it true that you have a really messed up law about weapons?
3. Can you rent pornographic movies?
4. Do they really show young adults close-up pictures of STD's?
5. Do they really make teens take abstinence-pledges?

1. Are there many christian extremists in the south?
Yes. I've lived in the South my whole life and can say that is true.
2. Is it true that you have a really messed up law about weapons? No?
3. Can you rent pornographic movies? Most likely, but I haven't seen any places around 'ere.
4. Do they really show young adults close-up pictures of STD's?Yeah. I don't see why that's a big deal. It's not pornographic or anything.
5. Do they really make teens take abstinence-pledges?
Yeah. But it's not like you have to live by it or anything.

1. Are there many christian extremists in the south?
Oh yeah.

2. Is it true that you have a really messed up law about weapons?
Needs more detail/clarification.

3. Can you rent pornographic movies?
Yeah.

4. Do they really show young adults close-up pictures of STD's?
Yeah

5. Do they really make teens take abstinence-pledges?
For the most part, no. I'm sure there is some organization somewhere that does, but the general rule is that nobody can make you do something like that.

Yes. They are allowed to, with a licence(correct me if I'm wrong).

@Matrix
With a license, background checks, and (i believe) training, yes. However our gun problems are from lack of enforcing current gunlaws /surprisingly republicanish rant

@OP
1) Yes, but there are extremists everywhere.
2) Depends how you consider it. i think it's more nuts to NOT be allowed to own a weapon if you so choose
3) I guess? But the internet is better for that... It's free (sometimes)
4) Some yes, some no. My highschool doesn't.
5) WTF are you talking about?

1. Yes and no. I mean as a whole, the South can be incredibly religious, but there are places in the South that aren't as bad as others.

2. This is a very vague question. Are you talking about guns, knives, weapons in general? We do have the 2nd Amendment which is a topic of debate often, and it's very hard to explain without one of the two sides of it feeling like its a wrong statement. I intrepret it as an antequated amendment which has its basis in a time period when the people were afraid of a more centralized government. As for whether or not it's messed up, is up for debate.

3. Yes, if you are of legal age, which depends on the area. I'm not sure if its municipal or state law that determines this. The legal age is 18 to rent although some areas require you to be 21.

4. Pictures of STD's are shown in Health courses in High School, although again thats dependent on the area as different states have different curriculum requirements for their schools (which is something I think needs to change, as a national standard would work so much more efficiently, but I digress.) I personally don't view it as a bad thing since sex health is such an important topic, I just wish the way STD's were presented was different. Instead of being just this scary thing we should be teaching kids that with protection, comes prevention of STD's.

5. Some areas promote abstinence. Do I agree with it? No, because studies have found that teenagers who swear to an abstinence oath have a higher STD contraction rate and pregnancy rate. Again, I'm personally all about sexual education to enable teens to make a smarter decision for themselves.

Hopefully this answers your questions (thoroughly).

1. Yes.
2. What? I don't think so.
3. Probably.
4. I wasn't shown those, so it's not a federal law.
5. No. That's illegal in the States. A private group like the Boy Scouts could do that though, I don't know of any groups off the top of my head that do though.

Yes, but not just in the South..they are everywhere

2. Is it true that you have a really messed up law about weapons?
18 and older (in most states) if licensed and with a background check can own/carry a weapon (except in certain place..schools, etc..)

3. Can you rent pornographic movies?
Yes, there are many adult (over 21) book stores that you can buy or rent

4. Do they really show young adults close-up pictures of STD's?
Yes, in an attempt to scare you to not have sex, or at least think about it before you do-- and what the possible outcome could be if your not careful.

5. Do they really make teens take abstinence-pledges?
Yes some places "encourage" -- our school did... but it is no way enforced-- jsut supposed to be a pledge to yourself.

As for the gun law question, you must be 21 to buy a gun and/ or have the CWL.
