That was freakin awesome. For once I was proud to be an american. We really won it in regulation time, but the refs just hate the US in World Cups.

ya, the red card, AND the encroachment were BS calls.
ive played soccer since i was 5, and have reffed little kids the last 2 summers, and in NO WAY was that encroachment on that PK
but...gotta beat france tomorrow!

As a keeper myself, I agree. If that was encroachment, basically every PK taken in the history of soccer is encroachment. USA going for the win!

I'm cheering for the States...even though Women's soccer isn't as engaging as mens, it's still fun to watch..Hope Solo is a great keep..in more ways than one

so depressed the USA lost...
and no Japan did NOT deserve it. while it is a heartwarming story blah blah blah...Japan got lucky and pulled off two fluke goals
but we learned 2 things...
1) Abby Wambach is one of the greatest womens players ever, and one of the greates USA players (regardless of gender) ever
2) Alex Morgan will be the force that drives the US Women to the next olympics and world cups to come

You forgot 3) Shannon Boxx shouldn't be taking PKs.

While I am sorry we lost I feel that Japan deserves credit. They never gave up and just kept trying to play their way. Their's is a massive success story. From failure to progress the first round at last attempt to winners is awesum!
My thoughts are...the USA were naive not to "shut down" and play safety after going up 2-1. You see it with the italian teams often in major tournaments ie: anywhere will do.

Even though they lost I'm still proud of the USA

Anybody here keeping track of the Copa America or did you all just watch Women's soccer because the US was in it?

I am, Brazil lost..what a shocker. They were 0 for 4 in the penalty shootout. Looks like Uruguay is the favorite to win it now.

Yea, and Argentina is out too..then Chile..basically every team that showed up in the World Cup. Looks like the underdogs are really having their way. I like Uruguay..they have a really impressive squad that I often underestimate

Japan and USA told us that women can't take penalties. They made the England senior team look good!
