Boy scouts anti gay?

First of all im not sure where to put this :P

Anyways, Im a boy scout thats had eagle for a while now, and while i was under the impression that only gay leaders where not allowed, on the ride home one of the SMs cracked a joke because me and my friends are really "close and personal" that if we were gay he'd have to kick us out. I reserched it and found that its true, all homosexuals can not be a part of the BSA.

I personaly am gay in the closet. Some of my friends in boy scouts know that im gay and really dont care because i know my boundries and i know when they are open to experimentation and when they are not. However this information has troubled me as Im almost eagle, looking at it this year. Im planning on leaving soon after i get my eagle (I just want it on my job applications) but im now finding that at meetings I am being super self consious about what i am doing and i think its raising suspicion. Chances are this is 75% Parinoia but whatevs.

Im also thinking that maybe I might do my eagle project as a gay activism/awareness project? or would that be too risky? Otherwise I'll just stick to a food drive.

So Share your thoughts on the topic and your stories, wheather or not you agree with the BSA no gay policy and soforth.

My first gay sexual experience was from boyscouts... i grew up in Texas so gay was edtra bad. But honestly it is just a matter of how people in your area take it. However, i see no reason why you should be depriefed of a cultural experience, so if you have any discrimination I say fight it.

yeah something needs to be done about this, its not right to exclude a certain person just because they are gay or bi. its just dumb, you would think that we as americans or other nations have learned to get along with gay people but no. there still strict with it and it sucks. dont give up and just hang in there.

I dont usually post in TS as i know my sexuality (straight) but when i was scrolling down the list of threads that had been recently posted i thought due to the intresting topic i would have to take a look at this

So i think that this is a rather small issue as we are in the 21st century now but the problem is..is that i am pretty sure its not illegal as boy scouts go back a lot of years and have had there rules practicly set in stone

my advice is

1 you could stay come open that your gay take the heat then if or when they go to kick you out cause a fuss right to you local paper things like that just to really piss them off (you never no this could work)

2 You could stay and work on your egale and be self concouis and what not

3 you could leave

so thats my current advice

Why go to boy scouts if you new you could not have any gay leadders i mean would that not offend you? also do you think if they can not have gay leadders that they would not take gay pupils (just thinking)

p.s i do think that this is wrong you should be able to join and be a member regardless of your sexuality

Ignore the above user, he's just a humorless troll. It's fairly well-known public knowledge that the boy scouts are an organization against homosexuality. You aren't going to change anything on your own by fighting it, so I'm afraid you're stuck with the choice of compromising part of who you are to stay in the organization or being more open about your sexuality and being forcibly removed.

The BSA are a private organization that can (and have) set their by bylaws to exclude whom they do and do not want to include. I agree with Sage, going public will not change things in the BSA...it has been tried and failed in the past. It has been well documented about their stand against gays. Narrow minded? Yes indeed.

You basically have 2 choices as i see it:
1.You say your close to Eagle...then hang in there and complete it...since its less than a year and then drop out if you want. I would not bring to light the gay thing... continue as you have a bear it (again-- you wont change their stance)
2. Drop out now and forget the entire BSA organization and all that you have worked for.

Personally, I think another 6 months or so if it was me, I would just suck it up and complete to get your Eagle, since you stated you want it on your resume.
