We bought a loaf of bread about 2/3 days ago and i haven't opened it till today. And being as precautious as I normally am with food, I smelled it. I had that beery/yeasty smell. I didn't eat it cuz of that. I looked for mold and I didn't see any. So was it bad? It says to sell by 7/15/11. And, if it makes a difference, it's Nature Own ButterBread.

suicidenote.

It sounds like it is okay to eat. As long as there is no signs of mold on it, it should be fine.

Like Ashley said...as long as it's not green it sounds okay

:-) LOL ya I have smelled the same thing before (Natures Own also..hmmm) but I ate it and nothing happened to me...Not sure if it is their bread or not...
I will start paying closer attention now.
Green or hard/crunchy (unless it's toast) is def bad, lol....

I think it's good but I'm no doctor so I will not be liable.. lol but yeah if no mold I think it's good. I once made myself toast years ago and ate some of it and looked down and it was a little moldy on one side, hopefully just that side.. :D

Generally, if it lacks mould it's safe to eat.

I'm never going to get reduced price bread again (they type they chuck out!) I had some rolls with my burger and chips last night and they had green dots all over them.

The expiry dates are only recommendations..I've had milk a week past the expiry date and it was alright..of course you have to do your mould checks..smell checks..but it won't kill you

it will either get stale or hard. Or it will get moldy, white green or blue coloring.

From what ive heard, bread doesnt necessarily go bad. Sure, mold can start growing (which is bad), but stale bread is just as nutritious as fresh bread. Just harder and tastes a little weird

Im guessing it would depend on your immune system?

On the heel of the bread and on the crusts of the slices theres usually white stuff but thats just the flour or something and thats ok so unless there green spots its gone bad lol and I dont think bread can mold after 2-3 days unless it was left there with the bag open or something lol

For me, bread is good so long as it doens't have mold, and it isn't stale.

The date on the bread is only a 'sell by' date anyway, not an experation date. It's perfectly fine to eat bread after the sell by date, so long as it has no visible signs of mold. ;)

Bread always smells funny. Some breads smell awefull, but they're still fresh. If there's no mold, don't worry :)
