The good thing about CL is it local, so you can go over and take a look and decide if the seller is attempting to rip you off. Check the local ads and contact them to take a look. I do not think I would buy ANY vehicle online without taking a look before I bought it. There are a lot of good sellers out there and my luck is I would find the one bad...

I'd second this. I wouldn't make any large purchase online without being able to contact the seller.

It's kind of a shady thing to do. I've bought shit off Cl before and I got ripped off buying a Xbox......worked for 3 days and Red Ringed on me. I tried contacting the lame ass seller and he never got back to me and ignored me. Anyway, point here is be careful. What you should do is buy a CarMD thing and bring it with you. It will tell you everything you need. But if you don't wanna spend an extra $200 haha, then bring a person who knows A LOT or decently enough about cars with you so he/she can check it out.

Not EXCLUSIVELY off of Craigslist, but if you find an ad with lots of pictures and a Carfax, bring a mechanic over to the car to look over it, see if its solid.

I would buy a car from craigslist. Only as long as though the sale was done locally and in person. Just know to take all the normal precautions you would doing any normal private sale. Get the carfax, have a mechanic check out the car, and take it for a test drive.

Only if the transaction happened in person and I got to test-drive the car (yeah, real likely, so I guess I have to say no)
