Does anyone else feel that today's music industry has become to commercial?
The main subject of all songs is sex, if not sex then love- as if there's nothing else to write about

Most of today's vocalist use auto-tune or certain effects and sound horrible live, its all about looks and not talent.

how do you feel about this?

how do you feel about this? That's what Pop music [-]was[/-] is all about since the beginning of its inception.

It enrages me beyond reality and I feel like it will only get worse until mainstream has hit rock bottom. I really want it to happen already.

Mainstream music is the same song over and over in just different words and using synths in different keys. Nothing more to me. In fact, I could never understand everyone's hatred towards Friday by Rebecca Black. I don't find that song any different than Lady Gaga or Rihanna's work. It's all the same.

Want me to push it a little farther?

I don't find Rebecca Black's music any different than Nickelback, Creed, and Linkin Park either. They're all the same to me. It's all composed in the same way, the lyrics and how it's all presented, it's just fucking stupid. There's nothing interesting about this.

Here's the consistent babble in pop music - Being on the dance floor, girl leaves boy so boy sings in high pitch vocals with his hand sticking out in the music video asking for girl to come back, songs about shaking dat ass, having a real exciting party.

The lyrics can't be in any way descriptive either - they have to be as bland, cheesy, and generic as possible. Even a seventh grade whiney goth girl from deviantart could put out better poems than what they're given. The best part about it is MOST OF THESE ARTISTS DON'T EVEN WRITE THESE LYRICS. That means they're having people write shitty lyrics for them.

Fuck, I want that job. You'd make so much money writing shit that says nothing other than, "I've got a feeling that tonight's going to be a good night". Damn! Fucking genius shit right there! Let the cash fucking flow.

Oh, what about mainstream rock? Which is pretty much pop music now because rock has become such pussy music. At least in the hair metal era we had people rebelling and shit. Now it's all "I'M SO SAD GIVE ME MY HEART BACK OR I'LL KILL YOU". Also, you have to use the phrase 'So far away' in your rock songs all the time and repeat the word 'Yeah' a billion times for extra credit.

The reason I don't complain about mainstream rap is because at least it's funny to listen to. I mean yeah, the shit is horrible, but it's so bad that's it's actually good in a sense. You know, just playing the music because it sucks so bad that it's just fucking hilarious while your listening to the garbage?

Really I hate mainstream music. The radio is for lazy people who want to click a button in a car and have something that won't challenge them to think that they can sing along with. It's fucking stupid. The whole idea of that bothers me so fucking much I'm smacking my fingers into the keyboard when typing.

I kind of imagine this type of world where one day people can drive around in there cars and turn on a radio station that clearly can go from a free jazz station to a experimental station to a psych-folk station. Come on people. There's so much good shit out there and the majority of it is being ignored. It's all just waiting to be explored. There's types of music you would never think of that exists. It's begging for you to open your ears and your mind to it.

I've been trying to make people realize that there's more to music than they think there is for a long time now, but after a while it just feels useless. More autoned garbage with lyrics of nothing but, "Tonight I'm going to love you" repeated over and over is nothing creative.

I'm going to end my rant, because if I kept going it'd be about ten pages longer.

Edit: Fuck it, It's 5:27 AM and I'm obviously not getting any sleep, so I'm going to keep blabbering.

I don't really understand how people actually don't notice how repetitive mainstream music is. I mean, it's basically nothing but "Verse chorus hook chorus verse chorus x3" or that mixed up in a different manner. How many times have I said that on this site? How many times have I fucking said that in life over all? Too many.

And it's really a lose-lose battle in all opinions worth. Out of the possible hundred or more people I've talked to music about, maybe ten to fifteen of them have actually opened up more to exploring music. The chances of people actually giving a shit is pretty low. The chances of someone reading this and their opinion being challenged or changed is very low. Most of this is just a bag of words to people. In fact, I'll say the words I'm typing will only be related to people like me and faris. Nobody else I'm sure.

Fuck it. I'm too bothered to keep going now. I really should try to get some sleep.

But Pop has gotten worse throughout the years. Take 50's and 60's pop as compared to today's pop, it had more in dept meaning, not as flashy and most of the artist of that time were talented and gifted performers such as Johnny Cash, Elvis Presley and the Beatles.

They all were unique and had there own style and variation. Unlike almost every pop artist today. Today's artist lack creativity and so much more.

The thing that pisses me of the most is that it's slipping into other genres of music like rock and hip hop. Hip Hop used to be about politics, philosophy, self expression- things that matter. Now it's all about some chick your gonna bang on the dance floor.

Let's do an experiment, shall we?

A random Lady Gaga's lyric. Video Link (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pu2hjcfsOWg).
It's too much a mess and a stress to figure out
And too much pressure on us, babe
Last night you took me to the mall
And then it started to get physical
^-Sex with boyfriend in the Mall.

A random Katey Perry lyric Video Link (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y6YVnl83IWQ)
Usually the queen
Of figuring out
Breaking down a man
Is no work out
But I have no clue
How to get
Through to you
^Sex with a blow up doll.

^- See the pattern? Let's take someone else.

A selected Jarboe lyric.(I bet with my 20 dollars that you never heard of her until today)
Video Link (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YBCJ0Z89NNk)
There's patchouli, spanish blossom, frankincense, and rose
I'm lavender, lavender
There's cedarwood, champa, musk, and myrrh
I'm lavender, lavender
I was smolderlng then you breathed deep
May your soul be free now my smoke is sweet
There's sandalwood, lilac, magnolia
I'm lavender, lavender
Ylang ylang, jasmine, amber
I'm lavender, lavender
I was smoldering then you breathed deep
Now our soul is free and our smoke is sweet
Lavender, lavender
^-Being a lavender and incense stick.

^- That broke the pattern, no? You see, no visible sexual innuendos. No superficial lyrics about lust and sex. In fact, it's about love, in a more metaphorical manner and style. Plus the music isn't just any electronic shit, it's set in NewAge-Chillout style rather than in the recycled electro-pop-rock music.

THE FUK KING REASON why I don't like Poop music. It's shit. Repeated. Recycled, Revamped. No innovation and creation involved. No visible artistic endeavours. Nothing. Empty, like a seashell -- carries no message(inb4 4:33). Has no style. Weak Aesthetics.

And, people call those "Artists", give me a break, playahs. Oh, and if they don't use Autotune, they are talented. Fuck, anyone can be "talented" with few singing lessons.

No, it's not only an American phenomenon. It's almost everywhere! In Egypt, in the Arabian Gulf. In Japan and Korea.

GOD. I RAJED. IT MADE ME RAJES. WHY DPIE. WHYY!!! ARRRRRRRRRGHGIShihhqahasoehgaoefafehnfroaHOFAHNFOAFNAO;FHOAHFOA;HFOA;FOFHNALCNKA BQIHOANIKB IAHDFQABFIH GIAEGBAJFHE[OJGNQidgheawjf oUHQONOUH[OANougNOHIbou

Oh, don't let me started with pop rock and mainstream rap, I didn't even begin with Poop. I think what deadpie said is enough.

I think deadpie and Faris summed up my opinion on mainstream music.

Relative to this website, I don't have a fucking clue about music. I don't know hordes about jazzcore, grindcore, dark ambient, doom jazz, post-hardcore, math rock, atmospheric metal, drone doom metal, death country, anything. I don't open myself up to experimentals like Nurse With Wound, and I certainly don't see anything in noise and anti-music. All I can do is probably name some artists from a few genres spread across the board and that's about it. I only have just above a thousand songs on my iPod.

But you know what? Relative to my friends and everybody I live around, that's fucking genius. Nobody around me knows what the hell post-rock (or dare I say even progressive rock, save a few people) means, people certainly haven't heard of ambient music, classical music is just 'oh yeah, Mozart, breakthrough in music, lame', folk is shitty Cumford & Sperms, country is Taylor Swift, and Lady Gaga is unique. What does that say about where I live (and just about everywhere else)? I'm honestly sick of it.

A part of me just sometimes wants to open up to mainstream music just so I don't rant at anyone who goes 'hurr durr two door cinema club new single' and shoves it in my fucking face. When we're allowed to listen to music in school somebody puts on some crappy typical egotistical mainstream rap or just blares out dubstep, and I honestly just want to tell them what fucking cunts they are. Every time somebody yells out 'tuuunaaage' when someone puts on Black Eyed Peas, I facepalm so hard my face nearly caves in.

And then the people who don't stuff their faces with autotune and the likes listen to this new whingey teen emo shit. Honestly, when someone says they listen to hard rock or metal and then tells me Slipknot, Linkin Park, Evanescence, Rise Against, Bring Me The Horizon et al I just give up.

I know my music taste has a massive room for improvement. But at least it's better than literally everybody I know in person. My friends (who listen to music regularly) know it and would probably love improvement, but most don't care. It's all black n yellow disco stick baby don't leave me do you know what it feels like bullshit.

I'm not a big fan of pop anymore.I've seen throguh all the nice and cute beats it's all the same, not really anything too different.

I think pop has gotten worse, yes, but I'm not going to go out on a limb and say the older poppy stuff is good.I'm not going to lie,I used to really like it.I just started listening to other shit, and looking back at it,I'm glad I listen to a more diverse group of music with different messages besides lets go party, have sex,and get wasted.

So kind of what deadpie and Faris said.

I honestly don't give a fuck. People can like their shitty pop music that all sounds the same, and I'll like my progressive rock/metal and post rock while they like theirs. Complaining about someone's musical taste does nothing. Doesn't bother me people like to listen to pop. They can go right ahead. Most of it's bad, but it doesn't matter. It'll die out in a couple of years just like every popular genre does. Soon there'll be another popular genre that every listens to.

I will agree, most people shouldn't really bitch about other peoples music, but sadly attitudes are very contagious.I've had a bunch of teeny bopers(well they were like 14 lol)making fun of the songs and music I was listening to.So I'm sadly becoming that way about too.I guess you have to listen to Lil Wayne, Lady Gaga or some other popular idol to be a somebody.I also think a lot of people overly stereotype you with the music you listen to and outfits you wear(which I myself am sadly subjected being one of these people).

I do admittedly love Queen  if they count as pop.

It was there from a long time and I doubt it will die in few years, and I doubt it will evolve either.

The whole point of the charts is to make commercial music that sells. This means it is souless, lacks creativit and is lacking in any serious theme. It just features topless artists selling sex or dancing for the mass. This is why I hate all popular music.

Hate it

I don't see how music could have possibly evolved into such shit. It's not only about the fact that they have little to no musical talent, It's about complete unoriginality. (just as many have said before me)

It makes me sick to my stomach. Music used to be about soul and passion. The freedom to express yourself. And for awhile, rebellion. And now, just as you have said, it's all about commercialism. "How can I get famous? And how can I get famous without trying really hard"

But I guess that's the beauty of music. It evolves and changes as generations come and go.

how do you feel about this?

How do I feel about this? I'm sick of hearing people talking about this. We all know the music industry of today sucks. I don't see the point in keep bringing it up on how crappy it is now. I do my part. I ignore it. I never have any radio on the old 'rap' now transformed pop station. For me it's always on a rock station. Just ignore it. In time, it'll go away. Just look at the 80's metal scene. It was long and gone by the 90's. By the way, I am not saying that the 80's metal scene was bad. There was good music..lot's of good music that emerged from that time period.
