My iPod Classic stopped working about 3-4 weeks ago. I had fallen asleep listening to it, and when I woke up, I unplugged my headphones, turned it off, and used the hold button (out of habit). When I went to use it, about 30 minutes later, it wouldn't start. I thought maybe the battery died. I plugged it into my wall charger, didn't work. Plugged it into my computer, nothing. Plugged it into my docking station, still nothing.

I thought maybe after a few weeks if the battery died out, and then I tried plugging it back in, it might work again. However, this isn't the case. It still doesn't work. Does anybody have any idea what I should do?

I'm fine with waiting a bit longer. My friend gave me his old iPod Photo, since he didn't need it anymore.

Sounds like a hardware problem; google " iPod classic black screen " and it should give a link to apple.com explaining how to reset it. (something like hold for 10 seconds along with the middle button or something). That should fix your problem, otherwise, send it out to apple, they usually ca tell you the problem and will fix it for a small (like $10) fee.

From what I have read and had to do in the past....
1.Try to connect it to the computer -- to itunes and is see if its recognized... if so try to restore it and see if that works.... If not try this:
2.Take your fingers, and firmly press the middle button, and the menu button. It will read menu on the top button of the click wheel, and the center circle of your click wheel is what your looking for.* Make sure your fingers are planted on the top of the center button, close to the menu button, and you are pressing it together. Hold for approx 8-10 sec...see if apple log appears.if so let it reboot and it should come up ( i had to do this several times to get to see the logo so be patient and try 3-5 times

If not, here is a forum from apple that addresses it (hopefully it pertains to you and it helps):

How long have you had it? Just in case none of those ideas work, if you still have the warranty you're fine :)
