Does anyone know if you can get STDs via kissing? I went to gay pride yesterday and I just want to know because I got off with a guy..

Also, if you go for a STD checkup, do they tell your parents?

yes you can get STD's by kissing both sex's, it's up to you if you want to get tested, and well I recommend you get tested when you can.

Thanks, do the doctors tell your parents if you've gone in for an STD test?

Only STD you can get kissing is herpes

Also Sailor is wrong, if you are over 13 you can get tested without parental knowledge, assuming you can get there and back.

if you are a minor under the law your parents have to know you want to get test they have to consent. hope i helped.

I'm sixteen, so I'm not technically a minor anymore.

actualy ur minor until you reach the adult age of 18 then offiically according the law youre an adult but in some contries this can be 21 and since ur 16 the doctor cant tell anyone unless u have given permission due to doctor paientent confidentally (sorry my spelling isnt all that) and the only thing u can catch i would says his herpes nothing much more

I wouldn't worry too much. Technically, anyone who has had a cold sore has had herpes. That sounds ten times more gross when I say it like that...

At 16 you can sign for anything medical without a parent or guardian and they do not have to tell a parent unless you request for them to or if it is something that puts your life at risk, etc (typical patient confidentiality stuff).

Just have a way to get there and back and pay for the test (I don't know if the UK is like Canada and is covered or is like America where you get billed... sorry) and you're good.

Hope you get the results you want. Good luck.

the NHS should take the charges and in the UK you can get tested without your parents needing to know.

Oh I totally missed you're in the UK, I gave you US laws. I don't know if they can tell, but I doubt it

As people have said, you can catch an STD through kissing, yes.

Nope, anyone involved in healthcare of any sort in the UK is not allowed to discuss anything about a specific patient with anyone else unless:

1) They are discussing a patient with a colleague (who needs to know the personal information to further help the patient).

2) They believe your / someone else's health or well-being is in immediate danger and in disclosing the personal information to another person, they will be protecting said health / well-being.

3) The patient consents to their personal information being disclosed to someone else.

So if you go to an STD clinic, they will NOT be allowed to discuss anything with your parents :)

I think Yes has been established. HSV is easily spread through contact with an infected person. Also it is possible to also catch many other forms of STI's (Name changed where I am to Sexual Transmitted Infection)- it all depends on the health of the gums of the person. This means that if there is bleeding in the gums, there is a higher chance of contracting a more dangerous STI. Although this is unlikely, it is very possible and most people do not know this, but it is very important.

HSV is usually contracted in childhood under the age of 12, however the chance of catching it later in life is extermly high, after all any contact with an infected area (not just a cold sore) can result in infection, which you cannot get rid of.

I am not aware of the laws in the UK, but here in Australia, if you are 16 YOA or older, anything can be kept in confidence with a doctor ect. It is also the age where you can seek medical advice on your own, although you still are not a adult until 18.

I think it is best to get tested when you can, even if symptoms do not appear, as most STI's can hide and show no symptoms what so ever. It also protects other people from being infected, that you are close to ect.

Hope this helps, if you want any further advice or information, let me know :D
