I managed to finally get hold of a copy of Heart Gold today and it made me wonder which of the pokemon games were the most popular. What were your favorite versions?

Ooh, even though there are some good ones, I started with the ruby, emerald, sapphire series so I'm a die hard Emerald fan. I want a remake of those games XD

I have to say im still a fan of the original first and second generations, however heart gold is pretty awesome :) The other games were pretty good but i wouldn't say they were better than the first few generations, they can only take it so far i guess.

I would like a more interactive Pokemon game. Like not turn based, where you actually run around and just fight. Poke'balls would be switchable between auto and manual throw.

Original second gen easily. How could you go wrong with Totodile, Chikorita and Cyndaquil. Easily the hardest choice of starter I've ever had.

Easy, cindaquill. Personally I have a hard time between mudkip and torchick.
(the only game I wanted the grass one was black and white, serperior rocks)

Sapphire was my first Pokemon game, and I sort of have a soft spot for it.

It's between Generation 1 Originals and Generation 4 for me.
Generation 1 is classic, it's what started the entire game series. I remember playing Blue and Yellow for countless hours as a kid for years on end. I recall for one game, my level 80 Victreebel was the envy of all of my friends. And I remember getting soooo pissed off at how hard it was to catch Scyther in the Safari.
As for Generation 4, Platinum is the most addicting in the series that I have played since there is so much to do. Even after you've beaten the Elite 4, there's still plenty to do rather than pointless game play. I am an Underground addict, I'm always spending a ton of time digging things up. It's also my favorite plot line out of the entire game series, along with (in my opinion) the best post-First Generation pokemon. Chatot, Monferno, Glaceon and Lucario are ALWAYS a must for my team whenever I restart the game.

What zephyr said. Generation IV was an awesome new generation of Pokemon. Tho I always had to import my Pokemon from the other games.
Just to include them my team:
Jolteon
Swampert
Gengar
Skarmory
Porygon Z
Dragonite

JJFIOFNQHONXEWOGIQNG-Fuck. This is the hardest question ever for somebody like me.
Hmm. I personally love all the generations and their games. Each one has had a huge thing of nostalgia for me so far, and I've spent countless hours on each game and replaying each game all the time.
Well...Except for Black and White. They're great games, but the huge lack of an after-game really turns me off. Hopefully in the 3rd installment they'll include a Battle Frontier or something along those lines to keep me playing.
Though the games I play the most would have to be Second and 3rd Gen (Including remakes)

Generation 1, 2, 3 easily. The rest are just not that impressionable in my opinion.

I play Pokemon (I shouldn't, I'm a girl...) but I really like the second generation games (G/S/C). Not really HeartGold and SoulSilver...I like the originals.

Obsessed? Maybe. I haven't played a Pokemon game in a long time though. :/
I picked this name out of pure boredom.

Oh right. Pokemon is a sacred art only to be enjoyed by males. The female character is just there to cover up the fact that the game looks sexist to the outside world. O_O'

Well I meant that most girls don't play Pokemon. It's not exactly girly...which I'd like to be more. I love Pokemon, but...well, I don't know if being a Pokemon nerd is doing me any favors.

Well according to this demographic, nearly 1/3 of Dream World players is female.
With that being, 529,940 of the 1,589,820 users is female. So it's false to say that most girls don't play Pokemon. :P
And who's going to care if you're girly or not?

I care if I'm girly or not. I don't think most guys like a girl like me, who really likes Pokemon...
Doesn't mean I don't want to like Pokemon. I just have to hide it.

Are you kidding I know 3 girls who play Pokemon and they are all awesome people.

I never said all guys think that. I said most. Because Pokemon really isn't something people regard as a game girls would play. At my school, guys don't like girls who play Pokemon. So I hide it. That's all.

I've only played generation I, II, and III sadly.
Gen. I Team: Dragonite, Blastoise, Pidgeot, Charizard, Venasaur, Mew
Gen. II Team: Typhlosion, Lugia, Raikou, Sneasel, Snorlax, Noctowl
Gen. III Team: Blaziken, Sableye, Exploud, Metagross, Kyogre, Zangoose
Gen. II was my favorite by far. I adored having Typhlosion at L.70 before hitting the Elite Four. :)
