View Full Version : A Different Way to Increase Post Count

Our post count increases by posting, everyone knows that. But I think the quality of the post should also effect our post count.
I mean, a post of 10 characters increases the post count by 1. But a post of 1000 characters also increases the post count by 1.
Don't you guys think it is a good idea to increase the post count according to the number of characters in a post? Say, a post below 500 characters can count as 1 post, 500-1000 can be 2, 1000+ can be three.

People would cheat and add 10000000 periods, no its a bad idea :P Well I guess we could censor out posts with a period/space to letter ratio.

I wonder why post count only increases if it's in completely different questions...yeah I know that a lot of people would just keep answering in the same one forever..like myself and above included but I still think it should add something to your count..like after every 10 in a certain topic or something...I don't know..just rambling.

I don't think it's even possible to do that (I may be wrong though).
and it can be abused if it was possible, a spammer could copy something that has lots of characters, like from Wikipedia

Firstly, it wouldn't be post count then, would it?
And as Jess said, I don't think that'd be possible on vBullentin.
It would probably also lead to more spamming, etc.
I think it's good as it is, why does the post count matter so much anyways?

It's post count. It doesn't really matter.

If you don't like it, type shorter responses. It would be stupid, and likely involve some well written codes to incorporate this into a large scale forum such as VT.

Alternatively, we could all just start doing what I do and be an asshole to people who make posts without substance.

Yeah, pissing a person off is a good way to make the world a good place. No, its good to be kind and I don't get why so many people are blind to that.

Or you could just post like everyone has been doing for several years.
Quality posts are rewarded by appreciation. And that is what the site is about. Post counts don't matter.

A post count is a count of the amount of posts you've posted... Whether a post is 1000 characters or 10, it's still a post, and assuming that a longer post is always more helpful and of better quality, is not a fair assumption to make.

All of the above. If you're so concerned about a high post count, you obviously care too much about what people think of you.

Not only that, but it also promotes an elitist attitude.
Also, if anyone here remembers Andy's old spam threads, they can tell you that a post with 1000 words can be just as useless and filled with as much bullshit as a post with 10 words.
