China recently opened the Jiaozhou Bay bridge (加州)It spans roughly 42.5 Km, making it the longest bridge over water.
kudos to the 中国人!!!!

also dont forget other achievements done by the chinese in the recent decades
-Three Gorges Dam
-Worlds largest ship builder
- High Speed rail
- Quality Infrastructure (i think :what:)
-2008 olympics
-etc

My Question is, If our great nation, The United States, had the money to build such an engineering feat, My feeling is, that it would be slowed or stopped or cancelled due to debates over funding, Environmentalists, corrupt politicians (maybe), The local population, and possibly Labor unions.

Please, correct me if any of what i recently mentioned sounds incorrect or odd. I like to learn :)

In my opinion, the reason that it takes so long to create such feats in the United States is that we are much much much more careful about any environmental impact that this may cause, and also the government is very reluctant to put that kind of money into infrastructure. For example, it took the government 20 years to plan and complete the Big Dig (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Big_Dig) in Boston. Back in the 1950s, when the Interstate system was being set up, highways were being constructed at a prodigous rate. Now it's at a crawl. Another example can be seen in new skyscrapers. The Empire State Building took two years from the start of construction to completion. One World Trade Center took 5 years to be approved and is estimated to take 7 years to complete from beginning of construction in 2006.

Bureaucracy slows things to a crawl here, and the same thing will happen to China in the not-so-distant future, I think.

Its easier for the Chinese to create such feats for two reasons. First reason is because they are actually in a budget surplus so they can afford such projects. Second is because they are communists and the government in China can do whatever they want! Like for example uprooting more then 2 million Chinese citizens and relocating them to make way for the 3 gorges dam. China is replacing South Korea as the largest ship builder in the world. That being said its because they are also the largest exporter in the world, they are building mostly container ships not war ships. Even if they were building war ships 90% of it would be fresh crap! One Aegis destroyer could take out have of their panzy fleet! The US is in decline economically but not militarily. We could still declare war on the entire world and win bahahahaha

To run a military you need an economy to provide oil and other necessities, such as food and ammunition. The United States imports a lot of its oil.

Why do I always get the feeling that Bimmertoe here likes to get his facts wrong?

I don't think the Chinese people can show resistance to any descision made by the government, they are communist after all. The government does stuff there, and a 40km long bridge would be a fancy sight for the Chinese.

Yo Bimmer, can you defeat the combined forces of Russia and China. One has Ivans on nukes, the other one spawns Chinese from the barracks building as if they wrote a "quick spawn hack". Let's add some North Korea on that and mix it with love to ready our dish.

The difference between us and the Nazi's is huge. For one our military is much larger and more advanced. We are not in Europe. We have also had 60+ years to become the most powerful country the world has ever seen whereas the Nazi's had 10.

Yeah... Thats exactly what I just said?? Princess of Madness Can you do me a favor and read my post before tearing it to shreds? They are communists therefore impressive dams and bridges are easy to just build for them. They don't have to worry about relocating citizens, getting things approved and things like that because HEY their communist! They just do it!

In a non Nuclear confrontation the US would decimate the entire world. We have 10X the navy as the rest of the world combined and our technology is years past anyone elses. Did I mention we share a continent with Mexico and Canada? So we wouldn't have to worry about invasion from either of them lol So that means everyone else has to cross the ocean with their meager armies. So we can then sink them all lol!

I think it's safe to say that it's the attitude and arrogance you display that's responsible for most of the entire world hating the United States. If you add up the number of active soldiers in all the militaries of the world (see this list) (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_number_of_troops) the United States doesn't have enough men or firepower to defeat all of them. I counted around ten million armed forces and gave up around the letter L, which already outnumbers the United States nearly 10:1. If you sincerely believe your country can do all that, then you've an unhealthy hard-on for war and nationalism and I recommend you go back to playing Call of Duty and watching the Superbowl.

So, man's effort in making the country's landscape a bit nicer is called communism, but making guns and machinery to kill(non-Americanzz) is not. Fuck.

Is China still a communist country, with the open-trade and private property policies? I don't think so.

Yes the faults are, if america were to declare war on everbody in the world, America has 300 million people (aprox) now i would say about a quater of those would be able to fight in a war (that is optimistic)

Now the world have 6,775,235,700 people aprox

- 300,000,000

so that is 6,475,235,700 people

so lets run the numbers one more time

america would have around 750,000 people (all called to arms)
versus the would that has 1,618,808,925 people. Now even if they were all unarmed america would get over run and killed off.

small statistic here for you brimmer, china, has the largest military in the world, they are te worlds biggest employer, they will never be afraid to nuke, bomb or slaughter. ever.

all this is, is another example of american egocentric personalities, arrogance and general stupidity. and amercia wonders why it is one of the most hated countrires on earth?

Azunite
July 4th, 2011, 05:22 AM
America couldn't endure a prolonged fight against China, since they will keep coming, soon soldiers would run out of ammo. And you expect to defeat an army of at least a billion, Bimmer?

Wow this is really bad, dude Brimmer think, yea our military is good, but why would we ever put ourselves in a situation to fight the world? obviously if the whole world was against us, the USA was doing something wrong. And again to Brimmer, you don't need to try to show the faults in another country to show the greatness of ours. Congratulations to China, but I still will not consider the Chinese people successful until their government stops restricting them of there freedoms.

in terms of the people? id say america is pretty bad, brimmer here is a prime example. many are ignorant to the world and full of arrogance. there is being a patriot and full blown delusion. in my opinion, for the beauty of the country, the importance it has played in the past century, then yes, american is ONE of the greatest countries. in my opinion also, no country is the greatest. id say 7 countries are tied for that position if it were ever to be given

I say the people here have a bad international reputation, a small minority of people here think like Brimmer. A majority of Americans have the best intentions though. And just out of curiosity, what are those 7 countries?

i would say, considering culture, contribution to world history, etc:

Greece
Turkey
The United Kingdom
Cambodia
Peru
America
France

even though the choices are hard, i would say those 7. with room for movement

July 4th, 2011, 05:46 AM

i would still put Rome over Cambodia, when Rome fell, it took the world centuries to recover. And the Egyptians in my opinion are more significant then the Incas or Aztecs. Just personal opinion though.

I am not great at history, so explain Turkey?

Tristin.
July 4th, 2011, 05:57 AM

Azunite
July 4th, 2011, 06:06 AM
Only good thing us Turks did was to find the "division" system in military. Other than that, we conquered half of the known world and had a large influence in Balkans, etc. We were the nation once all military leaders were afraid of, even Hitler was afraid to attack Turkey in WW2. But, I digress.

Yeah well other than military might I can't think of anything. But if we take "Turkey" rather than "Turks" I'd have Istanbul, of course. And since it is a place where many different nationalities live ( from Jews to Armenians ) we could have advanced in a rapid pace in Ottoman era, if our sultans weren't stupid.

And cali, Turkey literally means "The land of Turks" , I think this was originated from Latin or Italian in Ottoman Era or something, since then Anatolia is called "Turkey"
