Hi, I recenty started searching for a job and honestly its a lot more difficult than I thought. I mean I know the market is crap and all but I figured young fresh high school students would be grabbed up quickly by employers because we work cheap and all.
But anyway just looking for ideas on good places to apply for a job as a 17 year old (Please don't mention any fast food places such as McDonalds, burger king, etc.). I live in Illinois in the USA so keep that in mind if you're thinking of places local to you. Also I've aready applied at Target, Staples, Best Buy, and Starbucks.
Thanks in advance!

I'm sorry, but you said that you are 17? And this is your first job? You need the money, right? Well sir, I advise you stop being picky. Beggars CAN'T be choosers and in this economy you can't sit around saying "Well I don't have a job because I don't like Food service---" There is absolutely NOTHING wrong with working in a food service, it's a job just like everything else. When it comes down to the bills and you're desperate for work, you'll take what you can get.
On another note----Try, McDonalds, Burger King, Subway, Etc...
Since you've already applied at the other places. Walmart's you have to be 18 or older, so oh well.
Good luck out there, sir. =)

First I would ask what is your motivation. If you really need money to like support your family then you shouldn't rule any job out. If you would like money just for yourself then it's on you what standards you set. Try thinking outside the box. Tutor for money if you're smart. Also a really good way to stand out from other teens who will also be looking is to volunteer. If nothing turns up, maybe volunteer during the summer to have a better application or topic to talk about during interview. Then you can apply part time in the fall during school. It's tough for teens to find jobs in a lot of places.

hi, i am looking for a job myself. i found something to do that's temporary at http://alturl.com/ikubt but you may not like doing it. it will take you to a video that will outline what is expected, how you are paid, and what you will be doing online. dont worry it will not cost you anything. i hope you find a great job! good luck!

Thanks for the replies. Just to clear it up in case people were wondering yes I'm 17 but I'm not supporting anyone so I just wanted a job to have some personal cash. Also the reason I said no fast food is because like I said I don't NEED a job but I want to have a job that wll be somewhat cool and not make me miserable all the time. After all, people do there best work when they're happy. I never got called back from any of those places but I did just turn in a paper application for a local video game store and interviews start Monday so wish me luck! Thanks again.
