Physical exam being more detailed

Hey, I'm a 16 y/o teen guy. I just switched doctors and had my first physical with the new one. The old one had me strip to just my boxers, and after all the normal stuff, she would stick a hand up the leg of the boxers and have a really quick feel of my balls (like 10 secs).

I was really surprised when the nurse this time told me to remove everything, including my boxers and gave me a paper towel like thing to cover up my genital area (her words). When the doc came in she asked me more personal questions than the other doc had, like when my first ejaculation was. After all the normal exam stuff, when she got to feeling my stomach, the sheet fell off and I got a huge erection. She just kept on feeling my stomach. She then put on gloves, (so I knew what was to come) and started feeling my testicles. She felt them for a good full min at least. I thought that it would be over but she proceeded to put a finger under my balls by my penis and have me cough, then she checked my penis for std discharge she said. I never got hard at the other docs, as it took so Little time. Was this normal? Is she just more detailed then the other one was?

Wow, that was a turn on to read. Umm, I didnt know that doctors could ask questions like: "when was your first ejaculation". She definately was more specific and detailed than the other doctor. And you getting hard is and always will be normal. It happens and you cant help it.

if you have just switched doctors then its normal to find the full history of a paicent and to check the full health of a paicent so she was just being really throughouh she was doing nothing out of the ordinairy and im sure shes a million and one erections before so dont worry about it

She sounds very thorough, but you know what, I'd rather have a thorough doctor than one who doesn't check anything and lets something get missed. It's all standard practices, my doctor pretty much does the same thing, the ejaculation question was asked on paper though, not in person. The coughing thing is normal too. As for getting a boner, that's normal too, I hear it happening all the time when guys on here go to the doctors.

Yeah it sounds pretty normal, and I have heard that doctors are used to erections and they happen pretty often. That part of my physical was pretty quick (like 10 seconds), but I guess every doc is different.

Yeah, I talked to my brothers about this about another post about physicals. In my limited experience and in their experience, what you describe is pretty typical. You usually start out with your shorts on or a kind of hospital gown. Then the doc has you drop your shorts and takes a good look at your dick and feels your balls and has you cough. I never got no boner and neither did my brothers. But they say they guess it wouldn't be a surprise if some dude popped up with one. They guess that the docs say that it's normal just to put the guys at ease. since it's not really a comfortable situation, they guess that more guys don't get boned than do. But even if a small percentage of guys do, that means that the doc sees hundreds of boners a year. So it's really no big deal either way.

Sounds like the doctor was just being really thorough. She was probably checking for a hernia or tumors when she had you cough. The paper towel thing is odd, my doctor just has me take off everything but my underwear, then has me pull them down while she does the exam (which takes about 20 seconds.) Probably the only reason you got a boner was because she was feeling your balls for so long.

Most times they check to make sure your advancing through puberty well (so if you had a hormone imbalance they could correct it so it wouldn't affect your development), having you cough is so they can make sure you don't have a hernia (is what I believe I was told). Don't worry she was doing what was completly normal. I got a boner too and what's worse for me? My doctor was (same doc still) a guy so I was embarrased!

she may have thought she felt something on your balls, which is why she spent so long feeling them. when i've had physicals, i've been both asked to strip naked, to underwear, and to put on a gown.

someone mentioned a same sex doc, when it's a doc of the different sex, a nurse is present to make sure there is no "foul play" so to say.

well i can tell you at my doctors that they dont even make you take off your boxers... they feel my thighs and have me cough... but they have this new thing, and its just like a stethoscope and they but it right by my groin... i think the only time my doctor has seen my genital area was when i was wayyy young. but i actually have an appointment today for my physical at my adult doctor, cause i dont go to the pediatrics anymore.... If anything is new, i will re-post!

I just had mine today and they didn't do all that. All mine did was feel my balls(ten sec) and checked for a hernia. He said I was going along very nicely in puberty haha

Sounds like she was just doing the normal background info. I got asked questions like that and if im sexually active and using protection and that stuff, And ive popped a boner for my doc before too! NBD happens to them all the time!:)

Doesn't sound like she did anything out of the ordinary, you're overreacting. Plus getting an erection is normal, she's a professional and the amount of teen boys that she'll have seen is ridiculous. Think nothing of it.

I agree that it just sounds like the new doctor is getting your history and just being thorough. I just got my annual sports physical and although I was in boxers for most of it I was naked for probably about 5 minutes while he did the hernia thing then checked out my abdomen, penis and balls. He showed me how to do the self-testing for testicular cancer cause I guess teens are at higher risk and should check themselves once a month.
