Called Gay for listening to songs by female singers

Hey! umm I kinda want to know why do ppl especially teen boys like myself call other boys gay just for listening to music from certain singers like Mariah Carey, Beyonce, Whitney Houston and other female singer?

I think sometimes it is a way to attempt to show others how "cool" they are as some guys just dwell on other peoples sorrow or like to embarrass. A quick witty response about awards or the popularity of certain songs might help, but I, for the most part just attempt to ignore them as best as I can. If they are true friends they would not take issue and would understand the meaning behind the songs you choose to listen to.

I thought that stopped with the advent of Lady Gaga! Anyways, this is just like with the other things that happen during puberty. For example, there's really no point in nominating "comparing notes" and the like as "gay", especially because gay people themselves are way less interested in that than straight people. (Which I also wonder about.) Luckily that's ceasing to be the case nowadays.

Well people express themselves stupidly. That's the basic answer. Music is such a personal thing man. As for why guys really do it? It boils down to just being opinionated and then belligerent with that opinion. They also know that when anybody gets singled out like that there will be a show because the singled out person always feels isolated. It's just mean, but that's some people man. Listen to who you want to listen to and be who you want to be man. Let them deal with it. :)

because your like most people what they like is what everyone should like which isn't true i like music from all sorts of artist i just listen to music that i can sing along to and make the day feel more fun so if anyone takes the mickey out of me i say well you don't have to listen to it do you? i don't play it aloud well only at work but everyone doesn't mind ive had no complaints so far, on my ipod there's a song for everyone

My hockey team listened to a mix of Lady Gaga, taylor Swift and Mariah Carey in the locker room all the time. Pregame warm-ups? No One by Alicia Keys.

Then again Hockey people are fricking weird. Anyways I have a whole bunch of female singers on my iPod including at least 20 T. Swift songs. None of it is gay and Haters Gonna Hate.

Ignoring the general stereotypes and bullying that happens in schools anyway. Some music just is represented to be 'gay', nothing is ever going to change that.
