Hi I'm looking to find a good list of some really scary movies. I mean like suspenseful and gory... not terribly weird (like human centipede). And it's best to have something *UP TO DATE* please. Really appreciate the help.

If you're looking for franchises or serials and maybe better story-telling, then you'll probably be interested in Halloween, A Nightmare on Elm Street, Scream, Final Destination. If you're looking for the gore scene, Friday the 13th, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Saw (even though I don't watch it or recommend it).

Old suspense classics include Hitchcock films like Psycho and The Birds. If you enjoy Halloween, then you'll probably like Carpenter's other work including The Fog, Assault on Precinct 13, and The Thing. You could even throw something like Carrie in there. You'll find the most gore and blood mainly in slasher sequels of the '80s, mainly Friday the 13th and A Nightmare on Elm Street.

Halloween, Halloween II, Halloween 4, Halloween 5
Friday the 13th, Friday the 13th Part II, Friday the 13th Part III
A Nightmare on Elm Street, A Nightmare on Elm Street 3, A Nightmare on Elm Street 4

^ Those are probably your better franchise films.

The Grudge :P!

I think the recent decent Horror/Suspense would have to be Black Swan.Real mind fucker. It got me rather paranoid awhile too..

It also shows how dark you may have to go to get "perfection" or fame.I made me think of Heath Ledger.

Black Swan wasn't about her just "going dark".

I didn't say it was just about her going dark....you people sure like to argue :P.
I more or less see that movie as a thriller, but I can also see it as a horror as Nina slowly lost her sanity becoming the Black Swan/Queen.It had a what I thought a well written script and scene play for movie that get fit a couple of genres.

I find it annoying how that is all people associate the movie with just the lesbian scene. The movie has much more depth then two chics licking each other.[SPOILER ALERT][SPOILER ALERT][SPOILER ALERT][SPOILER ALERT]
[SPOILER ALERT][SPOILER ALERT][SPOILER ALERT][SPOILER ALERT]
Which turned out to be just a dream,or part of Nina's imagination.

Only asain horror is the best horror. Nothing can compare .I disagree. There are films that are not asian specifically, but they are good, and even better than some Asian or Japanese stuff.

You should understand the Japanese culture a bit to understand from where they come up with their stuff.

I suggest that you read this article. (http://www.dreamdawn.com/sh/features/japanese_horror.php)

Damn nice read and thanks Faris. I had just come back to make another post saying they aren't all the best but I do like them a lot. I had just remembered the movie Jacob's Ladder which influenced one of my favorite game series Silent Hill.

I find that most of my favorite horror films are either Spanish, or French.

Anything Halloween. ANYTHING. Michael Myers is a LEGEND.

Or if you have Netflix, search for the Masters of Horror series. They are like 1 hr mini horror movies. Some are good, some are bad. Check them out for yourself, there is like 25 in the series.

Oh and Pumpkin head:
