Rep is unfair

the reputation system seems unfair and from my first day in VT i had is disabled because when i read how it works i found it worked well lets just say rather unfair and stupid

so anyway my rep went up and down for a bit then went down and the way it went down was in my opinon fair and i really did not care

so today i made a post about the death penalty and it mentioned rape and i said and i stand by this 100% that if it is a man he should get his dick cut off. (i am a boy so this is not a girls point of view) and i stand by this and i know in some cultures and races and religions... they did this
so im my honest opinon this should be done

but then someone thinks this is a troll and de reps me now i would not of caired but the fact is he said it was a troll

but then it made me relize i am now i think -38 when before i was -11 and it did piss me

so why do we have a rep system that if u make 1 bad error of judgment or a mistake why should you get so much rep taken off just beause the other guy has a rep of something like 50....its just a stupid system

if i were to do it it would be -1 point not if you have a rep of 50 and you -rep someone and they loose all their rep so why cant it be add 1 rep or-1 rep point when you go to the rep area

anyway just thought i would share my opinon with you

The rep system itself isn't unfair, it might just be the people using it. Rep is given based on what the giver thinks of your post, whether the giver is mature or not when giving the rep is another matter. Complaining about the rep you receive will really not help matters because people will then most likely negatively rep you more. If you feel the rep you receive is unfair you can ask an admin to view and remove it if they see fit to. Rep isn't a big deal here, if you get it you get it, if you don't then you don't.

The rep system works like this. I have rep power of 134. If i positively repped you I would give you 134 points, which would push your rep power up. If i negatively repped you you would have half of my power taken away from you in points. so 134 halved is 67, so you'd have 67 points taken off you. The amount will vary for every person depending on the rep levels of them at the time.

As I said above, the rep system isn't going to be changing anytime soon, so all you can do is request an admin to review the rep you receive if you're that bothered about it. This is the cost of debating in the ROTW forum, not everyone is going to agree with your views and this is probably their way of showing it.

Pretty much. I was in a thread and 2 others with high reps disagreed so I was in the red. I figure im not here to be popular so I just turned it off.

I agree, it is unfair. People give me bad rep because they hate my opinion. (Is being nice to a troll so bad? Is saying your opinion wrong?) They sometimes even rep me twice with different posts for the same reason, just so I can get twice the negative rep. I don't know if it's the people on here who are just mean, or something but it's one of the reasons why I only go on VT when I have some major problem. I offer my best advice to people, but I never get any positive rep for that.
I already have problems in life, (as everyone does) depression, suicidal thoughts, people hating me outside this site, hardly any friends, and no social life , the rep thing just adds to my depression.
I know Ill probably get some negative rep for this post, but it's the truth.
I just hope people won't look down at me for that.

They can't. There's a system in place where you have to rep a certain amount of other people (10 I believe) before they can give you rep again

But really it's just an addon, you should not get neither happy or sad about it. it doesn't prove you're popular or not popular, it doesnt change who you are and therefore it is pointless...

However this is a forum and people have different opinions, as we have the right to give +rep to agree with someone we also have the right to -rep if we dont. it's just the rules of the game.

It's no problem. And considering that you've made posts which I could well have negrepped you for (but haven't), I think that goes to show that Bimmerhead was just making even more pointless attacks. Not that I'm suprised since that's all he ever does.

And Death this is extremely hypocritical if I recall you and myself went back and forth in PM's about one reputation point so when I neg repped you. So don't pick someone else apart for asking questions when you do the same shit.
