What's different from the DS and 3DS?

It's not the same as the other DSes, and it's a completely new system. It is more powerful --graphically, atc-- than the other older DS because it has to render 3D without the use of glasses and almost on par with PS3/360 graphics. It features two cameras outside the device to capture 3D photos and capturing 3D video, as well as a camera positioned above the top screen on the inside of the device which faces the player, capable of taking 2D photos and capturing 2D video. It also supports 3D movies. It also supports a round nub analog input called the "Slide Pad", an accelerometer, and a gyroscope. In addition, there is an infra-red communicator port situated on the top of the unit. In addition to its own software, the Nintendo 3DS will be backward compatible with Nintendo DS software, including DSi software........... Got that off of yahoo

I have a 3DS. I have Zelda. Zelda makes it worth my 200 euro.

OMG! 3ds!
I don't have one. (yet) But I'm planning to get one around August. I heard it's so cool with Face Raiders ( a shooting game with your friends faces!), Augmented Reality, (a fun feature that shows stuff in real world... like a 3d drawing in real life or Mario in real life.), Mii Maker, 3DS sound, (well that was in the dsi too, but this supports mp3 files), a pedometer, an activity log, an internet browser, full backward capacity with ds games, a single friend code for online interactions, friend list, and friend status.
I heard something like some sort of messaging system possibly coming, and I'm hoping for it!
When I get a 3ds, I'll post my friend code here.

It's something you need to get used to before you use it regularly. If you follow the instructions such as playing in a well lit room and not playing if you're tired you'll only feel minimal eye strain at first maybe, and eventually nothing at all.

I have a 3DS. Street Fighter was fun for like...a month. But then I got Zelda and I'm absolutely in love with the system again, along with the Virtual Console.

I had the origonal DS but it broke and I want a new one but the 3DS seems like it isn't worth it. I tried it at Best Buy and got a massive headache.

Can't most stuff if not used correctly though?

It takes awhile to get used to. At first it gave me such a bad headache. Now I feel nothing. It's not worth it yet though, since they're no really good games execpt for Zelda, which I'm going to get as soon as possible.

I tried it out at the store and wasn't a fan of the 3D mode.

The only reason I'd want one is for the Zelda Ocarina of Time game, but it's not worth the $250 for the system and extra $40 for the game...

Where did you get that from? Sony just brought out the PS Vita, the iPod is going viral, and Nintendo brought out the 3DS not too long ago.
So no, handhelds are not becoming obsolete.

i have one and i don't like it. it gave me headaches lol
Same here....especially since I look at things from an angle.
It looks okay if you look at it straight, though. But like 180 degrees straight, not one little bit off.

I quite like them, with the price cut that's been announced that effectively halves the asking price, I'd be very tempted to purchase one once my student loan comes through.

I heard about the price cut minutes after it was announced. Since then I've also been very tempted to buy one. Although I'm out of work right now, they cut alot of people including me, so I might have to ask my mother if she would consider getting it for me, paying her back of course. It's a good time to take advantage of this price cut while it lasts.

The only thing I don't like about the 3DS, is the 3D. I mean, yeah its the whole point of the system, but I wish there was a way to toggle the 3D effect because sometimes it really fucks with my eyes.

Toggle the 3D? Of course you can, the sliding switch allows you to control the depth... I actually like the 3D, it doesn't hurt my eyes when I was playing zelda on my friends for about an hour. Odd since I hate 3D TV.

Same.
My thing with 3D TV I guess is that it's not as immersive. I mean I can sit and watch something in 3D, but that's boring. With the 3DS I can control what's going on.

nintendo needs to stop rehashing the DS, the reason the 3DS is such a flop is because people look at their DS/DS lite/DSi/DSiXL and don't see a point in getting one

good job nintendo you dont know shit about marketing and rely on large price drops

When it was first announced at E3, I freakin' DROOLED. Knowing that there was a DS that was actually what almost all of us expected from the DSi. But when I heard the price later, I wanted to slap Fils-Aime for ANNOUNCING such an overpriced piece of machinery. (Note that that was an empty threat. Please do not take that seriously.) The lauch titles were very disappointing as well, as everyone knows. However, seeing it's recent price drop, and the promised remakes, sequals, etc. Of some of the most famous Nintendo games, (Ocarina of Time 3D, Luigi's Mansion 2, StarFox 64 3D, etc.) I thought it was a must-have. The 3D is just a useless yet adequate feature to me, but since the games have "3D" in title, I say to myself, "Eh. Maybe I SHOULD use it". To anyone who wanted a high-quality, NOW reasonably priced handheld, I reccommend it.

Also, I do NOT own one. But I do have a cracked DSi, and I think the 3DS is a fantastic replacement.

re·hash Verb /rēˈhaSH/

"Put (old ideas or material) into a new form without significant change or improvement"

I don't see how a large graphical improvement, improved online connectivity, vastly improved downloadable content, increased 3rd party support, and improved controller options are a rehash of a system that was bulky, dim, and under powered compared to it's competitor the Playstation Portable.

Flop Noun /fläp/
"A total failure"

Would it be considered a total failure if the Nintendo 3DS had the most successful launch of a handheld system ever in the company's history?

Would it be a total failure if the 3DS sold More than 4.32 Million units as of July, 2011? (http://www.gamespot.com/news/6326074/zelda-ocarina-of-time-3d-sells-a-million?tag=updates%3Beditor%3Ball%3Btitle%3B1)

Would it also be a flop if within the first few days of the price drop that Nintendo was seeing sales of only 50,000 3DS systems per week, but it exploded into 215,000 new systems sold? (http://www.electronista.com/articles/11/08/16/nintendo.sees.3ds.price.drop.work.in.short.term/)

Based on the numbers we've seen, the reason why people weren't buying the 3DS wasn't because they already have a DS, but because of the price. I'm sure by now most people would get that the 3DS is a successor to the DS and not just "Another DS."

Also, how would Nintendo know nothing of marketing? People don't just go buying things just because the price has dropped. There has to be something about the system that influences their buying decisions.

I'm getting kind of worried right now. I'm still planning on buying one of these in the near future, but what the hell are they doing?
I'm waiting on the press conference next week to determine whether I like it, or if i'm just buying it to play Zelda.

For now it's just an accessory. I've read that Nintendo wants to create more Gamecube esque games but can't because there isn't a third analogue stick. So this could make it's way into a potential redesign for the 3DS. I personally don't think that would really matter though, since the gamecube second analogue stick wasn't actually used for movement, usually just to look around or something. The windwaker would still work if they wanted to try it.

I'm not making any conclusions until next Tuesday for their presentation.

3DS is the best handheld console I've ever used!
It's just so amazing, and it will come alot of good games to it. Unfortunatly it will take some time for all of them to get out. Zelda I beat in about a week, and after some weeks I beat it again just to have something to play. Now I don't got anything to play before Starfox, Mariokart 7 and Super Mario 3D Land comes. :/

Where did you hear that about them wanting to create "Gamecube-esque" games? I haven't heard anything other than they would like to probably bring Super Mario Sunshine someday.

And a redesign as of right now would be, I think, a terrible decision. I mean they already had people calling foul at the price drop, would they really want to do all that again so soon? If any redesign is to make it's way, then at the very least they could give it a couple years. I mean not like a DS Lite type of redesign, but a DSi type of redesign.

A redesign would be completely ridiculous right now, don't get me wrong. I doubt they will it would be a very stupid move in a business perspective. But the fact that they have this accessory on the table does make you think that they're taking it down a similar road as the PSP.

With the idea of creating "Gamecube-esque" I read in an IGN article (as accurate as it may be).

"developers do actually have the power to replicate the graphics, but aren't capable because of the inadequate control scheme (ergo, only one analogue nub). The 3DS is capable of handling GameCube era games, yet companies can't take advantage of this because the system is actually incapable of properly replicating the control scheme used ten years ago."

http://uk.ds.ign.com/articles/119/1192737p1.html

I personally think it's too early for Nintendo to be introducing such an accessory or trying to extend the console further than it was initially intended on going rather than continuing to create good quality games, enough so, to put confidence back into loyal consumers.
