Not going to happen. The issue has been brought up before that the topic starter may have a reoccurring problem and wish to bump their thread instead of starting a whole new thread. Read the thread dates before posting. Simple as that. Also, if you travel back five pages before replying to a topic, let me just say: You're doing it wrong.

I think us moderators find it more annoying, but it happens for a reason.

I made a suggestion to put an eye catching warning on old threads. I think there still should be one

But is it possible to do automatically? Mods can't go round marking old threads after all, then they'd just get nothing done.

I think there was a suggestion to do it automatically but it was turned down

how many people would pay attention to this?

not that many mainly its new members that bump old threads so they get 100 posts to start PM sometimes you get the odd experienced member doing it but thats because its a survey or something like that

doing automaticaly would be hard and probably very expensive which is not fair on the admini so its fine with the mods do it if t annoys you then report the offeneding post and place old thread in the message box

a warning message wouldnt i doubt anyone would pay attention to it plus there are some threads that you can bump such as surveys and polls and stuff so its not really possible to do this

a warning message in red or eye catching colors and somewhere nearly the quick reply and full reply

and it would say something about OPs can bump it and all too

Although this suggestion has been brought up before and has both pros and cons to the matter, I am not satisfied that this would be useful on a site like Virtual Teen. As you can see there are a lot of threads being made everyday. Also we have a bump limit board wide of 2 months except for questions for both because of the surveys. A lot of the threads made here namely the help sections are especially sensitive an do not always get fast replies. So having an automatic thread lock, would be useless. And although the thread bit edit showing the user that it's an old thread is a good idea, but honestly I don't think it's worth it. I hate to sound like a prick here, but; moderators are hired to lock threads among other tasks as it gives them something to do and I like to maintain that work ethic and effort done by the staff members strictly instead of an unreliable system or bold ignored letters. A perfect example of the big red bold letters being ignored? Take a look at Puberty 101, there are at least 3 rule and guideline threads and announcements, but are rarely to none heeded. So it's just best left to the human man. If you have a question as to why threads are locked or more of an explanation, my PM box is open.

plus it also helps the safety and security of the site aswell the more stuff that is done automatically the more is forgetton about so as scarface said thats what moderators do plus they can make the descion either to lock or it or leave it depending on the content of the thread

Having thought about both arguments, this seems to be trying to fix a virtually non-existent problem.

theres pros and cons to anything in life you have to decide whats more potent in this case the cons outweigh the pros
