ok so i'm against the whole idea of beauty pageants completely because its sad that physical beauty is so important. Also as i feminist it irks me a little. But i was thinking-why don't they make male beauty pageants? And i don't mean the small ones that pop up in random places-why isn't there a mr. universe or wtvr?

Why?

Most people put beauty pageants together with skinny, big breasted women in tight fitting bikini's. Not men in speedo's

but arent beauty pageants supposed to honor physical beauty? men are beautiful too in that sense. I think from a feminist perspective at least, it would address the accusation of sexism...

good question and somehow I agree even though I think pageants are pretty pointless

But I don't think it solves any sort of sexism.

When I think of male beauty pageants, all I can think of is plastic looking men on steroids with thickly drawn on eyebrows, illuminous orange skin and uncomfortably tight speedos with huge padding at the front to create the illusion of them having an enormous cock. That's vomit inducing. Equally as highly repulsive as the gross skinny female beauty pageants with a hard plasticine face that can't move, fake hair that looks like a wig, scary long fake nails and blindingly white fake teeth.

Nobody with half a brain would find either male or female beauty pageants even remotely attractive.

Baby blue eyed white blondes are the entire pagent basically lol. My ex was into that and wanted me to be in pagents with her. But im really short so it wouldnt have been a self esteem booster for me :(

What does a male version of a beauty pagent have anything to do with sexism?

triceratops-i hate to break it to you but the people in those pageants ARE physically beautiful. You're lying to yourself if you deny it. I don't like how there's an obsession over physical beauty but that doesn't mean they aren't attractive. Seriously have you ever seen them?

shatterwings-the problem with pageants is that they objectify women right? they're barely more than their bodies. which is sexist. I know this is going to sound bad but if there's a male pageant then men would get objectified too. so men and women would be on a equal level of objectification. I know I know, it sounds really bad but isn't it true?

Personally I'd rather not have either male or female pageants. It's so bad for self-esteem...

I think you and I are seeing different beauty pageants. Think of Katie Price and Pamela Anderson, they are plastic and typical conventions of what is seen in a beauty pageant, and that is just downright ugly to me. On the other hand, Scarlett Johannson, Hilary Duff or Rachel McAdams (I don't know many celebrities, I'm just pulling random ones out from my head), they are what I consider real physical beauty. None of this plastic surgery and overdoses of fake tan.

Then again beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Some people like classy, some like the plasticine look. I guess you chose plasticine.

And a male beauty pageant would be even more grotesque...

Who knows, I never found pageants to be worth my time to look into.

Ouch. I also think Scarlett Johannson etc is beautiful. But I'm not talking about personal preferences of physical beauty-if the beauty is natural or not. Plastic surgery isn't that easy to detect and i bet if you saw someone from the beauty pageants in the street wearing jeans and a tank top with little/no makeup you would think they're pretty.
This is totally not the point of the thread though....

It is when it's at the extent portrayed by these kinds of people.

Yeah probably, which is why there is no need for them to smother themselves in such excessive fakery. Most people can look good if they put in the effort, just not too much "effort".

The same applies for males. Wipe off all that hideous and disgusting orange tan, layers of make-up and put them in some ordinary clothes and they would look a million times better.

I agree. I DO NOT support beauty pageants; I dont think that came across strong enough. I was just wondering why the ppl in charge dont also make a male one. I'm trying to be objective here.
