It should be a sin to be able to sing like this live. (Open Arms-Journey)

I mean, good lord that is not even close to nearly perfect, it IS perfect. Steve Perry has always been and always will be THE voice. I hope some of you who read this will appreciate it. I know a few people my age who really appreciate music like this, and others who can't stand it. In order to make this a thread with a point, I have added a poll lol :)

My only regret for ever listening to journey is that I will never be able to see them live (the real journey) :(

(When I say voice alone, that includes the emotion and all elements of the singing. Basically everything other than showmanship.)

On the voice only, then it will be 4-5.

Lol, it's music not modeling. The persona and the looks also adds.

Take this guy for example.

He is 2deep4u to the limit you want to drop down to him. I know I want to.

I understand that, but usually when you listen to music, it's through speakers rather than in a video. For me, music is all about the lyrics and emotion.

For me, music is all about the lyrics and emotion. Then that's your shortcoming. Music is more than simply the lyrics and emotion.

Or maybe your shortcoming is caring what the singer looks like?

I can understand getting into the persona, but that's one of the best things about Steve Perry, he stays true to himself, he doesn't put on a facade.

Oh I could just stare into his dreamy eyes all day.

Not all personas are false. But it doesn't matter does it? Example, my chemical romance puts on a different persona in each album. (well with the least two, 3 cheers for sweet revenge was sort of close to black parade and I haven't listened to the old old songs that much) ANYWAY, my point is, I look at music almos like a movie or a story. Personas make it all the more interesting to me. Could you imagine reading ONLY non fiction books? But I'm not saying that lyrics and emotion are not equally important.

This seems to have turned into an arguement (my fault I know). I guess there has been a misunderstanding. I can understand the persona thing. That is part of emotion in a way, because the persona affects the emotion. My biggest beef with what was said is the whole thing about looks. Who gives a shit about looks? It is music, not a modeling contest. (Please forgive me for bringing this up) This is why Justin Bieber is so popular....stupid teenage girls who instantly love him and his music because (in their eyes) he is good looking. If someone is a good singer, but doesn't look good, then it affects their popularity in a negative way (at least when you are talking in the eyes of people youner than 25) and if someone can't carry a tune in a bucket, but they are attractive, it affects their popularity in a positive way. Like I said, the voice, not the face, is what matters.

So....back to the original intent of this thread....lol

I've heard better, though I'm a fan of Journey. It's a high 8 to light 9 for me because there are many other better songs that are often overlooked where he gave much much more.

Yeah I'm not a fan of this song so much, but Steve Perry could flat out, hands down sing. Great range and control.

Murdoc, I agree with you. I just used this song as an example because of the key and octave it is in. I am close to positive that perry never went higher than this except for maybe a single note. To be able to sing like he did, with so much emotion and control, on a song that means so much to him, is crazy, much less being able to do it live.

If I'm wrong about perry not going higher, please give me a link, I'd love to see it.
