...freak the crap out of me. :/ What is this shit? I dread it happening all the time because it scares me and I hate how it feels. I had it for a bit during my psych appointment, I just stopped talking for a minute or two waiting for it to pass and Leslie got worried. :/ It's the palpitations that get me. I don't always notice just the irregular heartbeat, but the palpitations are what scares me.
I've never known the exact cause, but there are a few things it could be so I'm told. I'm a smoker, anaemic, and I've had some thyroid issues in the past as well. The doctors know, they don't seem to be as concerned about it as other things though. Don't know why I'm making this though. Probably because I know there are some knowledgeable people on VT about this stuff and I may get reassurance or answers or whatever.

Do you have an eating disorder?
Not eating enough = mineral/electrolyte imbalance (may)= heart rhythm issues.
Er. Caffeine could to it too. When my sister was crashing/withdrawing a while back she was having major heart palpitations
Smoking may be an influence, I believe it constricts bloodflow? Paired with anything else, you could be getting palpitations from that.

There are literally dozens of possible causes, it may be natural or induced by something. Its nothing really to worry about, so don't stress over it. Just go and see a doctor when you can and he/she will be able to lead you down a path that just suits you.
I don't want to get technical here cause no one would understand it, but just see a doctor when you can. :D
If you want anymore detailed advice ect = PM me :D

There could be dozens of underlying reasons, its better to go to a doctor and have them take a look into it. Palpitations aren't nice, I had them a lot before and after heart surgery a little while ago. Most important thing is you stay calm when you're experiencing them, they do have a habit of getting you into a panic which will not help the matter. Take some deep breathes and go into a place of the opposite temperature. If you're hot, go outside. If you get cold get a blanket.

More possibilities :P I'm better than I have been, but yeah, I do have an eating disorder. And my caffeine intake isn't ideal, I can imagine.

Mmm, yeah, my next appointment is in two weeks I believe, I'll try to remember to bring it up.

Thanks for the tips, Aaron. :) I'll try those next time.

As everyone else has said it's a good idea to get it looked at.
I get pretty similar to you, irregular heart beats as well as palipitations. I'm on meds now to control my blood pressure so I get this a lot less. It's definitely worth going to a doctor for it, even if it's just because they are so annoying.

Irregular heartbeats are typically a symptom for something important to take care of as soon as possible. If you ever feel like how you did, and you know its not normal, seek medical attention right away. Until you see a doctor, and he gives you an OK and explains the situation, never assume anything. Because I've made the same mistake, and my cousin died from overlooking problems with his heart. Even if it seems like a small attack. Get help.

Oh, I'm sorry  I get palpitations and some of my family does too. I know how annoying they get but I have always (even from doctors) been told that its no big deal. However it might not be palpitations so I would recommend asking your doctor if something really is wrong just in case ;)

The lapse in time sounds like an absence seziure, but that is besides the point. It sounds like an Ectopic Atrial Tacheycardia or something. This would be something I would suggest talking to the cardiologist about but that I assume has already been said. It might have something to do with a lapse in the cardiac tissue.
Cardiac tissue has the ability to function on its own, it can also take on the characteristics of the pacemaker within the heart to form more pacemakers and thus the palpatations are caused. I will have to look at my books to figure some more things out, I just pulled this out of my head, it was the first thing that came to mind.
If you have anymore questions fill free to drop me a line.
