View Full Version : Dad Broke His Wrist. I Need Help.

Today my dad was working on a roof job. He is a self-employed joiner.
He fell off and broke his right wrist, and was taken to hospital. He's having an operation tomorrow. We're not a very well off family. We were barely making through with both my mum's and my dad's income. Now only my mum is getting income, and it's almost impossible to sustain the entire family off of it.
Because my dad is self employed, he doesn't get benefits or compensation for the time that he can't work. I'm currently looking for a job, but can't get a full time job because of school. And even if I do get one, it still won't be enough income. We can't get a loan because we've been blacklisted for credit.
Is there anything that can be done to help? Any charity organisations that deal with this kind of thing? Or if there are people out there who know their law, can you tell me if there are any benefits that we can get, even with self employment?
Thanks.
- Pudd.

im sure there are lots of places who will be able to help you and your family out
as for you trying to help your family as best as you can thats great that u wanna get a job and help them out.. keep looking eventually one will come up
aside from that sorry bout your dad but accidents happen
i hope hes ok and makes good use of his hand when it is fixed
perhaps he should hire a helper

Thanks for the advice.
We can't afford to pay a helper, so that's out of the question. I'll look around at the red cross website. Thanks again.

well i really did not think charites would help but i suggested it like one other person did
well the only thing i can think of is to take out one of those 30 day loans things off of something like wonga.com because they probably except everyone even those with bad credit history ect ect (never used it but a friend of a friend used it and he was 41 and had serious debt problems and he got it so) try that as they hsve serious high intrest rates so thats why they would except you even with bad history
i know that may be hard to except that is a solutin but its all i can think of

If your family attends a church from my experience you can get financial support from others in your church. Otherwise, sometimes, people can't do much, just have to drop the luxuries and buy cheap food. I heard of a family living on beans in rice for like a year because of not enough income. I'm really sorry you have to go through this but otherwise I cant do much but wish you the best of luck from here

Places like Wonga.com are a very bad option. For one, their limit is about £250-£500, and the interest rates are something like 1750% per month.
We're not religious, and even if we were, one of the major 'powers' of the church doesn't stand well with our family. I know it seems really hypocritical, but she's very deceitful and I wouldn't put it past her to ignore any family in need, were she given the option.

Do you have a TV? Your family could sell it and make maybe enough money to tough it out until your dad was better.

I would maybe check with a teacher you trust. He or she might know organizations thru the school that can help.

Today, at the market (My mum runs a local produce market on Tuesdays), two church members gave her £200 to help, from the church funds. That was the first time I have ever cried from something good happening. I was so shocked because we're not even religious.
-Derri- There is a benefit that we just found out about. We're looking into it just now.
Thanks for your help guys.

I don't thing a loan of money is a good option, because you will have to return the same amount of money plus interests.
I think the best is to cut in anything that is unnecessary, television, refrigerants, snacks, etc. Just live with your possibilities, I know it maybe a little hard but we have to face reality. If you need you can sell things, jewelery, etc.
Working on a part time job can also help, just to temporarily, until your father gets better.
The best for your father.
