It's not really a popular drug. Not that drugs should be popular, but I think there are more guys that smoke pot than that use hippy crack.

Most people here are probably from the USA, and I heard you actually get laughing gas at the dentist! Here in the Netherlands we don't even get any drugs for wisdom teeth removal, only some local anesthesia. I'm fine with that, but when I heard people in the USA got laughing gas at the dentist I really wanted to try it out. And it's really great. My best experiences were when I didn't get any sleep for over 40 hours, and one night when we were quite tipsy a friend and I used 50 cartridges each.

I'm not saying that you should use it or anything, but it's fairly safe. Safer than smoking and drinking, but it also depends on how you use it. For example, I always do it when sitting or lying on the couch. Otherwise you could fall and seriously hurt your head.

In my opinion, smoking pot is the limit. I've never actually smoked pot, even though it is legal here in the Netherlands. I don't smoke cigarettes, because it's something most people will end up doing regularly, and I really don't feel the need to. I drink sometimes just for sociability, but I think you can have a good time without alcohol. I want to try out pot because I heard it is great in combination with hippy crack.

I do use N2O from time to time, yes. As the OP has said, it's a fairly safe drug (in moderation, as always). The biggest worry when using it is hypoxia / asphyxiation; if you hold a 'lung full' of it in for too long, you could quite easily loose consciousness.

In the UK, as far as I know, as long as it is sold in individual quantities of less than 16g (the number which mainly refers to the size of the canisters of it) and is not intended to be given for any medical reason, it's perfectly legal to buy, posses and consume it. You can easily buy it off the internet.

We do also use N2O + O2 in a 50/50 mixture as an analgesic in the UK. It's commonly known as Entonox / Entenox / Nitronox / 'gas and air' / 'laughing gas' and will in this instance fall under the Medicines Act; a clinician must prescribe it for someone to take (although the user ultimately self-administers it).

Inhaling pure nitrous oxide tends to initially make my vision and hearing go quite 'tinny' / 'metallic'. This is then followed by the feeling that my brain is a balloon which has been very suddenly inflated. I also normally feel that I'm transcending through various layers / levels of consciousness and have an incredibly altered state of perception of everything.

I've never actually had to have 'gas and air' although I doubt it has quite the same effect as pure N2O due to the added O2. Entonox always seems to make people feel a bit drunk and go quite giggly.

I know of paramedics who use N2O that they carry on the job after a stressful call. Can't say I blame them..

I used to do it every now and then as a kid when I could get my hands on it. Embarrassingly, sometimes I would purposefully lack in my dental hygiene so I could lay there under the laughing gas. :/ Of course I think about it, but that one died around the time of the rehab for my morphine addiction.

(As I post, I'm think "Geez, am I really posting here..?")

No, but in all honesty, I'd love to. "Entonox" (Laughing Gas) is a great experience that I get at the dentists. I believe that people in the US get the laughing gas due to fears of the dentist. (As I have one.) I've never been able to try pure N2O or laughing gas under no stress. Normally I stop caring about everything; I feel like I'm floating, and when someone asks me something I -think- my voice comes out super slurred. And yes, as far as I know, it's safe expect for asphyxiation.
