View Full Version : Going to the pool....in a swim suit

My friend invited me to the pool tomorrow. This isn't the friend I told about my cutting. Anyway, I don't have water proof make up to cover the scars on my thighs and arms. I have no money either. Should I just wear swim shorts? I have already said goodbye to my shorts and swim suits for the summer. I'm not sure if my swim shorts will cover the scars and my one fresh cut. My friend is already kind of on to me so I can't let her see the tops of my thighs. If only I was going swimming with the person I told. She's the only person who knows. Besides the people who have heir suspicions. I kind of want to cancel so I don't have to risk this. Should I cancel? Or go? If I go, what should I say if she flat out asks me if I cut?

Go swim :)
If she asks then just tell her the truth, you cut and you're trying to get better.
For the waterproof makeup thing, I forget where, but I read coverup and hairspray on top of the coverup should pretty much water proof it :)

It all depends on how comfortable you are with showing your scars. Do whatever you want to cover them.
If you decide to show them, and you act confident and comfortable, I doubt anyone will scan you for scars. If you're obviously uncomfortable and try and hide your scars by standing/moving in a certain way, then someone will notice. So just act confident :)
I've had a lot of people see my scars when it's been warm and I've gone out in short sleeves, and no one has ever said anything. I've noticed them looking at my arm, and then looking at my face, but they just completely ignored it, because either they thought it from something else, or they just didn't want to go there.
If they ask, it's up to you whether you feel comfortable to tell them the truth or not. You don't even need to decide now, because when it actually happens, you'll know how you feel about it.

In those kind of situations, its like Georgia said, people might not even notice. In my experience, if you act nervous, and actively make an effort to cover them up, people will get curious. make it look totally normal, and nobody will bat an eyelid.

When it comes down to covering scars up, Base or Concealer and some high powered (Doesnt even have to be high powered..) hair spray do the trick.

I went to the pool. I wore my swim shorts the whole time though. I ended up buying a longer pair at walmart. I was just too scared they would come up. I told my friend that I was chafed really bad and I didn't want people to see. It's easy explaining my arms, I just tell people I had a tree accident when I was younger. My thighs....not so much. Thanks for all of your advice. :)

Put antibiotic ointment on your cuts before and after you get out of the pool.
Swim shorts should work just fine, but if you're unsure, you could always wear pajama shorts or sports shorts. Or, you can wrap the towel around you until you get to the water, and wrap it back around you when you get out. Take pants to change in/out of.
If your friend asks about it, she obviously cares and is worried. If you feel comfortable enough to sit down and talk to her about it, make sure she understands that it's a confidential subject and you don't want it to be brought up to any sort of outside sources.
Be confident and have fun! Message me if you ever need to talk. I know the feeling. I have horrible scars on my left wrist. Impossible to cover at the beach, but, I wear them with confidence and when people ask about it, I just tell them "I went through a really hard time. I'm a lot better now. No worries, but thank you for asking". They usually respect you enough to stop asking, or personally don't want to push the subject any farther.
Best of luck! x
