....create Perl tutorials?
Like, where I show how to program in Perl?
I would really enjoy doing that.

I could do this in several ways:

Subforum of TJP. I could make seperate threads for each tutorial and let people ask questions, post comments, etc.
A diary. Same idea as the subforum, but probably not the best idea since if I forget about it for 2 weeks, then it'll get deleted and stuff
Several Threads in TJP. I could prefix them with "Perl Tutorial" or something
.....or any other method

Mods and people: Do I have your permission to do one of these things?

it's a scripting language that's been around since 1987.
it is used somewhat in web development today, although that was more in the late 90s to early 2000.
it is also used in some system administration tasks, mostly on unix or linux.

and next time, try googling (http://www.google.co.uk/hws/search?q=Perl&client=sce-psp-row&adsafe=low) it.

I can't see the staff officially supporting something that doesn't really fit with the site's theme or that will be particularly significant. I'm sure no one will stop you opening a thread in the Tech Junky's Paradise, but don't expect anything more.

That's irrelevant to this thread.

Just make one thread and use several single post links through BBcode to create a guide. Making multiple threads would be stupid.
Basically, it's the same thing I'll be doing when I complete my writing guide and post it on VT.

But that would be double-posting, right?

just keep it to one thread. Donkey hit it right on the head bro.VT is more of a help site with more of a small section for technical things. I'm not opposed t a diary or single thread, but I don't want anything else, it wouldn't be necessary.

I'd be more for making a diary about it. In the event that this idea takes on momentum, and then becomes extremely popular, we couldn't make it a sticky as we have enough in TJP. So I'd really be encouraging you to start your own diary.

^See.

Double posting is a lot less annoying than several threads on the same topic anyway. Also, I'm sure if staff sees that it's a guide, they'll exempt the rule so long as the guide has some practical purpose.

I'm thinking a diary is your best bet. You could post multiple threads and manage the entire thing yourself without getting bogged down by other people posting unrelated threads and taking away attention from your tutorials. It'd frankly be nice to see more diaries that aren't just boring "oh post whatever you want here" shitheaps of spam and in-jokes.

Not a bad idea....I'll request it.

But I've already made the thread - can it be split into seperate ones and moved there?

When your diary is created, simply report the thread asking to have it moved, and me or another GD/Global mod will move it there.
From there what you do with it is up to you.
You can split it into multiple threads if you wish, or you can keep it 1 thread with an 'index' of sorts in the first post with links to go to each tutorial post.

Sounds good!

Thanks! You people are so helpful.

I would give out +rep, but it says I have already given too much :(
