I know it's mostly for girls but has anyones parents made them get it? My dad kinda hinted that he wanted me to get them this summer. I don't want to bring it up with my friends in case they make fun of me.

HPV can be for boys or girls, and protects against some forms of the Human Papillomavirus Virus. The needle does have quite a sting too it, and is just like any other regular IM Injection. The needle protects both the boy and girl about HPV related conditions such as Genital Warts and Cancer of the Cervix.

The boys will not know unless you tell them ....

Thats all I can pull our of my tired head at the moment, if you want any more info on the topic, I will be happy to provide it, just let me know.

It may be a good idea once sexual contact begins. Her eis a link on the CDC website to use for reference and to get knowledge.

I've had this. You have to have three injections. It was a while ago but I think it's 1 a month after a first and another 6 months after the first. I may be wrong though. It's less painful than most injections. I had my tetanus in one arm and this in the other on the same day at one point, and the tetanus was much more painful.

It'll just ache for at most a few days afterwards. Just have it on the side you don't sleep on!

I would actually suggest this due to the simple fact that it is a easy and effective way to help fight HPV and reduce the risk of contracting it. I would personally get one if I had the chance.

Eeesh...I thought it was just two injections! Fiction...thanks for the info though. I'm not exactly a big fan of needles...anyone know a good reason for a guy not to get the shots??

Its something that is important, and for the sake of a few jabs its hell worth it.

Last time I checked, in the US they aren't given to boys, something about untested in males.

Also, if you're not a virgin, it's not advised to get it because you've likely been exposed already and the vaccination won't do shit.

There's still a high chance you haven't been exposed to it even if you aren't a virgin. I know in the UK it's still advised if you are, it's just more likely to be effective if you aren't a virgin.

Mmm, I believe there are many countries in which the vaccine has only been approved for females, but the US and the UK aren't part of that. A good reason not to? Well, are you a virgin? I was able to put off the vaccine for a couple years because of that excuse. But then my mum made me promise that when I became active that I'd tell her and get the vaccine, so I honoured that. Honestly though, it's three shots over the course of six months. If you get the chance, DO IT. Doesn't matter whether you're active or not. Better safe than sorry. You do NOT want an STD. But I bet that was obvious to you. And especially in males. There is currently no widespread test for HPV in males. Females can get a Pap smear though.

Yeah, I've gotten the shots. It's a series of 3 shots and in my opinion, are the most painful shots I've ever gotten. That probably has something to do with my phobia of needles and injections though. The first one was the absolute WORST! It felt like the medicine was very thick and I could feel it going into my arm. When I got in the car afterwards I just started crying out of nowhere and my arm was so sore. (The doctor said that mood swings could be an after effect.) One of the worst experiences of my life...

They offer it in schools in the UK for girls, i had the chance to have it done. Chose not too even though my parents wanted me too. Three injections, that i hear make your arm ache like hell. If you want it, have it.

Kisha, ya it definitely burned. I got my shots thru my school. I think it's a good idea and both my parents agreed. And I'm not sexually active, but some day I will be so thats why.

I actually don't know too much about the vaccine... weird, since I've had it. I remember that it made my sister pass out. xD It didn't bother me much though. I never feel shots anyway.

My parents told me that they wanted me to get it so I was okay with it. Good to see more information about it though. I got it two years ago so I didn't really understand too much about what it was anyway.

EDIT: It's also given to girls through school in Canada during the eighth grade.
