So Im 16 and a cross country runner. I've noticed that for the last few days, my right leg has been feeling funny...I can't describe how it feels..but it only feels better when I move it..
I heard about RLS and looked it up...and i have the same "symptoms" that they describe...

IS it possible for a teenager to have RLS? Does anyone else have something similar and how do you take care of it?

Thanks In Advance,
TAC1

I would strongly strongly strongly recommend - do not even think about Diagnosing online. There are literally 1000 possibilities, and you can't just pin it on RLS. It could really be a number of things, no one on here, myself and Dimitri included, can say 100% what it may or may not be. If you are really concerned - go see your doctor, as they will help find a solution :)

Restless legs syndrome (RLS) is a disorder of the part of the nervous system that affects the legs and causes an urge to move them. Because it usually interferes with sleep, it also is considered a sleep disorder. It can happen at any age, and is most commonly found in woman rather then males- but can appear in both sexes. It is said to affect up to 10% of the USA population.

I would just advise you against self diagnosing online, as many people draw the wrong conclusions and go for the worse case scenario. Unless you have any training in the medical field - still go to the doctor, and she/he will be able to help.

If you need anything else PM me, here to help :)

Yes a teenager can have it... I have RLS... Go to the doctor let him diagnose you... He will probably tell you to lay off the cafeine.. If that doesnt work he will probably prescribe you dopamine.. Or you could just have an iron deficiency and he'll give you some pills for that.. But don't go by anything I say because I do not have a medical license so therefor I'm not a dr. But hope I did help a little.. :)

Mmm, yes, it is definitely possible. I've had it since a very young age. Never knew what it was until I heard the term though. I had a sleep study done and they put me on some medication that didn't work out in the long run because I was having some horrible side effects on it. I'm anaemic myself, and iron deficiency is a common condition that occurs alongside RLS. You could try to watch your nutrients, see if you're getting your daily dosage of iron. As well, you can try home remedies to help it. Try taking a warm bath when you feel it coming on, or massaging the area can also help. My main way of coping with it is just taking sleeping pills and getting to sleep before it can come on.
