View Full Version : To Wear or Not to Wear - T-Shirts Under a Shirt?

I always wear a white t-shirt under a dress shirt (http://www.dealstudio.com/searchdeals.php?type=id&q=d258603&ru=27706900) (to work) but notice that other guys don’t. Now that it’s no-tie casual Friday it’s more evident and the little bit of white t-shirt I can see in the mirror sticking out does look a little odd. What’s the verdict?

I think it all really depends on the person. Some people prefer undershirts, some don't. I'd say it's just your choice. Not a specific fashion do or don't.

I truthfully wear a white tshirt under dress shirts, because most dress shirts are sheer and quite easy to see through.

Yeah, I guess it does depend. Here's what I think:

Without undershirt: more comfortable, relaxed, modern maybe even a little more flirty

With undershirt: more professional, maybe added for warmth, or style(see below); maybe also added to eliminate or minimize sweat stains

If you wanna be more stylish, although this is not for work (not professional enough), add a colored shirt under a button up shirt. Use an undershirt from a different color than the main shirt. The contrast makes the color pop and really adds visual interest to a young person's outfit.

don't wear a shirt with a crew neck white t shirt. Buy (hanes/fruit of the loom etc) white undershirt v necks . Don't get a baggy fit as it has to hug your body or it will make you look fat if you're wearing a shirt on top. If you want your shirt to last longer. Wear an undershirt

I do that all the time.

It depends on various factors:

1- Quality of dress shirt (more expensive shirts, generally those $75 and up, are of higher quality cotton and therefore don't show through)
2- Temperature (High temperature and you're bound to sweat, wearing an undershirt can hide this sweat better)

I generally wear a v-neck undershirt so that it can't be seen when I leave the shirt open.

Thing with that though is that you're going to sweat more, probably. It's your own decision really, what you feel more comfortable wearing (or not wearing...) and how you think it looks on you.

You don't have to wear just white t-shirts underneath. They make t-shirts in all different colors. What I do is wear an undershirt that matches or goes with the regular shirt I'm wearing.
