I think it would be an awesome idea to have a like button for each post someone makes..just like Facebook and other forums I've been to.
I also think there should be a "report" button on everyones profile..

obviously it isn't but I still believe that it would be a good way for us to well show our approval of someone's post - or disapproval without ranting about every little thing so much.

Approval? Disapproval? Sounds suspiciously like rep. And there's already a report button, as well as PMing a mod/admin.

True about the rep...but the rep doesn't nearly get used as much as I would think it should. I see posts that are worthy of some recognition and it turns out to be that the person who said it has like no rep.. I think it's more convenient for a one click button. Doesn't has to be a like button but maybe a approve button or something. Then there could also be a disapprove button and off to the side it would tally up how many approval's and disapproval's you've collected in time. I think it's a better system then the current.
And I did not see the report button. I must not have looked hard enough.

eh we don't really need one. we already have a reputation system. though maybe a 'thanks system' would be better than a rep system...in some ways...

There is a like button mod i saw being implemented in Govteen. but i doubt it's going to be used here.

Thank you! Rep is enough to give opinion about a post. It is a like button and a dislike button at the same time.

if you look underneath someones name when they post theres a little set scales this rep when you can either give them postive rep if they have made a good contribution or you can give them negative rep if they have made a bad contribution, along from this is a red danger this allows the user to report the post and if the moderator decides that the whole account is need of investigation then they report the account to an admin

1. This isn't facebook.
2. That's basically what rep is for.
3. Report buttons do exist.

LOL No, we don't need a like button.
We have Reputation for that.
Report a post by clicking on the triangle sign with an exclimation point at the bottom of each post

Wow guys, lock much?
I would love to see a like feature given a trial run. No, not to be like facebook but because rep is shit. Rep isnt based on quality and I'm sure you all know that. I do think that it would also cut back on all those one word "agreed" posts.
Sorry for making a new thread but I wanted to put my two cents in and locking threads is ridiculous.

I checked available modifications and such, and the only way that I know of to get a like button into vbulletin is to buy the vBSEO package which costs $150. So yeah there goes that idea.

+Like. Oh, wait...
Honestly, if we added a like function, not only would Ant blow $150, but we'd basically lose the purpose of the rep system.

vBSEO adds a like and share button to every post. PM's a user when the post is liked. And, on the front end at least, thats all you see. Tbh, $150 is pretty steep for that little.

you do realise that you could modify the PHP source to add those buttons, right? or does the contract forbid that?

Hold him responsible? For what? It's not like Ant is going to give him control over VT to make that change. Lol, he'd have to show via text, screenshots or video. And then still there is no guarantee that Ant would even add the suggested modules.

Well, I guess we don't need to modify PHP stuff after all!
Now I can't see the code because I don't have a vB licence, so you'll have to let me know how this goes.
Try this: http://www.vbulletin.org/forum/showthread.php?t=241053
Or if you must, add this to where you want the button to appear:
<iframe src="http://www.facebook.com/plugins/like.php?href=http://www.virtualteen.org/forums/<? echo $session['sessionurl']; ?>?p=<? echo $post['postid']; ?>&layout=button_count&show_faces=true&width=&action=like&colorscheme=light"
scrolling="no" frameborder="0" allowTransparency="true" style="border:none; overflow:hidden; width:100px; height:20px"></iframe>
I would recommend making a page like showthread2.php to test it.
Let me know how it goes ;)

I /really/ don't think we were talking about Facebook like buttons here Thomas.
The like buttons we were talking about (At least, what I got out of it) were the ability to 'like' a post (Or 'approve' of a post), and to on that post, see how many 'likes' or 'approves' the post got. Which would require database access.
A Facebook 'Like' button just isn't going to happen. Pretty much no one would click it, as most of use like to keep our VT life out of our personal life.

I've seen systems with buttons like what we are talking about for individual posts. Rep looks more clean and contained. We don't need a like/dislike button on every post.

Yeah, that's not a bad idea. Somebody should put a "Paid ideas" page or something where people propose ideas, and Ant or Ron or whoever puts a "Donate" button on there.

I don't think the like button is hard to have. Some vbulletin forums have them.
I personally like the like system. In my opinion it's better then rep because it's purely on opinion.
It also may reduce the abuse of the rep button. (I think the like is for opinion, and rep for bad posts or behavior)

Report all abuse to an admin, like Ant and all the rest have said.
Please read the last 3 pages of a thread before posting. Thankies :)

Likes on here actually sounds really cool to me. I've seen it on other forums and I enjoy using it more than rep. A rep system and a like system can easily work at the same time.
TheMatrix
July 18th, 2011, 11:56 AM
True, true, but like I just said, we have to have extra $$$ to use it.
It's just like the Flashchat that so many people seemed to enjoy. You could...
Donte $150. The money will first go to the normal expenses of the site(domain, hosting, etc), and the rest will go into the cooki jar for a like system.
Donate the addon directly. You will have to pay $150 of your own cash and then send it to David or Ron.
I'd like it, too. But I'm not prepared to give $150 just so that we could have this.
It might even fade out of popularity after a while. Did you know that there is also a "Rate this thread" system? That probably costed some money(unless it was already included) to add.
If that happened, then it would have been a huge waste, no?

How would adding a like or thank you button be different then the rep system? If people are giving out rep based on popularity or whatever, why wouldn't they do the same for the like system?
Peace God

Anyone can see if the post was liked.
You can like someones posts without having to spread more likes around first.
There's no anonymity.
There's no rep "power".
