Debate team???

So my whole famaly thinks i should join the debate team cause i'm got with that kind of thing but i'm not really sure anybody out there been on a debate team or know what it's about??

i have.
there's several types of debate. i've done public forum. i didn't like it(i hate preperations), but that's just me.

Yeah it's pretty awesome. Like the person above me said there are different types of debate

1. Policy: it's the hardest and is about what it sounds like-policy and you have a partner that you work with
2. Lincoln-Douglas (L.D.): it is more about philosophy and ethics. You don't work with a partner
3. Public Forum (PoFo) public forum is kind of a cross between policy and L.D. You also work with a partner.

4. Congress (which wasn't always consider a type of debate but they recently changed it) and it is exactly what it sounds like-congress. You get bills and you prepare speeches for them and then when you are at a tournament you are in a room with a bunch of people and treat it as if you were in actual congress. You don't have a partner.

Also, most debate teams, if not all, allow you to take part in speech events which can include performing monologues or dialogues or a speech with a visual aid etc. There are many types of events and it will take to long for me to type them haha

But I think you should join it is a good way to learn speaking skills and it will come in handy when presenting something for a class or writing a paper. I met most of my BEST FRIENDS in debate and hey, you get out of school for somedays (for tournaments but it all depends on the school I suppose) but yeah I met a lot of my friends their and it isn't about winning when you go to a tournament for me it was about spending the whole day getting to act dumb with my friends at some random high school

I also recommend that you join because it looks extremely good on college applications that you are an NFL member (National Forensic League) and hey if you're good at it you can even have the chance to go to Nationals and win scholarship money. So yeah, do what you think you should but in my opinion joining debate was one of the best things I've done for my 'high school career'
