Yeah, but as I've already seen in this thread, Apple fans are trying to bash it all the same. :P
I might get vista... Once I get a DVD drive ;)

Lol, I'm not bashing as such, I think the actual Vista OS is bloody good, I really like the layout of it, but I'm just saying that the asthetics are kinda "Apple'y", it's all kinda rounded and curvey lol.

Like most PC users could care less about Apple. I like it when some Apple people come in and say Leopard is going to be better than Vista when they haven't even used both. It seems Apple users have to like their operating systems.

I see no need to get vista yet, i don't got the space, and there are no games that take advantage of DirectX 10, though i may eventually once the next gen of games come out.

I have been using Vista since they released the final release candidate, and it's ok. It has mouse interface in the installer, and the installer is styled with aero effects. It comes with drivers pre-installed, along with an MPEG-2 decoder, the release candidate was ultimate, so I don't know about basic, but if you buy your computer from Dell they install drivers and shit for you. The interface is a lot smoother than Xp, I really like how they eliminated the fucking all programs menu that devoured your screen; there is a "search as you type" box in its place. The task manager is much nicer, and opens into a larger box, I can't remember what it's called, that gives more detailed information about your cpu, ram, network, and hard drive usage. Internet Explorer is definitely much better as it now has tabs. Windows Media Player 11 is even better in Vista, it has a smoother look to it, the interface is the same as in the Xp release, though. The only major problem I encountered was installing an older game, Starcraft. It took me about 20 minutes to get the damn installer open. It runs normally after being installed, but just a warning for those attempting to install anything more than eight years old.
About the requirements, these are the absolute bare minimum for all versions:
* 800 MHz processor and 512 MB of system memory
* 20 GB hard drive with at least 15 GB of available space
* Support for Super VGA graphics
* CD-ROM drive
Home Basic:
* 1 GHz 32-bit (x86) or 64-bit (x64) processor
* 512 MB of system memory
* 20 GB hard drive with at least 15 GB of available space
* Support for DirectX 9 graphics and 32 MB of graphics memory
* DVD-ROM drive
* Audio Output
* Internet access (fees may apply)
Home Premium / Business / Ultimate:
* 1 GHz 32-bit (x86) or 64-bit (x64) processor
* 1 GB of system memory
* 40 GB hard drive with at least 15 GB of available space
* Support for DirectX 9 graphics with:
o WDDM Driver
o 128 MB of graphics memory (minimum)
o Pixel Shader 2.0 in hardware
o 32 bits per pixel
* DVD-ROM drive
* Audio Output
* Internet access (fees may apply)
I wouldn't rush out to get this OS, just wait until you buy a new computer that has it already loaded, it's nice, and an improvement, but not worth a few hundred dollars.

nobody believes me but about 8 months ago I was at my friend's house and his dad had windows vista. I don't know HOW, but he had it. I think he is a hacker or something, he had all these crazy books about computer programs I have never heard of, and I am pretty computer literate. but yeah, when I saw it a while back it looked freaking awesome

Is it possible to run Mac OS X on a windows computer?

Yes. You can purchase it from Apple's site. Btw, it's more similar to NT, all the newer Windhoes operating systems are NT based.

It's impossible for that processor to utilize that amount of RAM...
It runs like a dream for you because you have a very fast computer. It's horrible that they're sticking the damn thing on laptops with 512MB of RAM.
Blahages
June 3rd, 2007, 01:51 AM
I don't like it. Sure, you can turn off the UAC. That's the first thing I did with the Betas and RC1 & 2. I tried the Final as well, and didn't like it either. As said before, the navigation is horrible. I don't know why they fiddled with it. They made a lot of things 2-3 times harder, adding in some cases several more steps to get to a desired place then in XP. Users who have NEVER used Windows before might find it nice, because they didn't know where anything was anyway, and might find it nice. But, if you're used to where everything is, and it is suddenly randomly changed, and more steps added to get to it, it's just aggravating.
XP also runs a lot better on my machines. There's really no advantage for me, whatsoever, to "upgrade" to Vista. The cost alone makes it undesirable.
The only thing I found I liked in Vista was the Add-on for the Task Manager that allows you to monitor Net speeds and other crap. The Performance Monitor, or whatever it is. I don't care about DX10, or Aero. If I want something "Fancy" like Aero, I'll just use Ubuntu with XGL/Beryl. And, I do have that installed, although I use XP more often right now.
Ive had Vista running on my shiny new, custom built, rig for about 6 months, since RC1 came out. And i must say i like it, and i t runs like a dream.
an extra 2Gb of ram is coming soon along with a SECOND graphics card! Sli!
Vista will only end up recognizing about 3.5GB of RAM, I believe. That is, assuming you're using the 32bit edition? XP will do the same. The 64 Bit version will recognize the 4GB fine.
It's impossible for that processor to utilize that amount of RAM...
The processor has nothing to do with how much ram the OS and Programs will use. You could have a P3 1.2GHz and a Athlon 64 X2 6000+ both running the same exact things, and have them using approximately the same amount of RAM.

Vista runs smoothly here -- I still prefer good and trusty XP, some of the programs I use work way better on XP and crash on Vista, sadly. I find Vista too bloated for it's own good (I've been using it since beta 2)so... I'm dual booting just now, and I mostly use my beloved copy of XP Pro, which is much better than most of you make it out to be.
