Personally I have not tried this yet, though I think it's a good idea. But whether or not it works is relative since different things work for different people. If you're looking for a coping technique, I'd say try it and see what you think

Might I ask, what is the butterfly effect?

I think (correct me if im wrong) its where you draw a butterfly on yourself, and it you self harm then you have killed that butterfly or somthing.
I have tried it.. it worked for a bit, but constantly drawing them annoyed me. So try it and see if it works for you :)

I did try it, but it never worked for me. I mean I get the point but it provides absolutely no release for me so didn't work. But different things work for different people it's worth a try surely?

I tried but it didnt work for me because:
1. I'm a guy and going to school with a butterfly is like asking to be beaten up.
2. When deppressed/sad enough to cut/self-harm I dont really care much more about anything and especially not a drawing...

That seems a little.. Pointless. I guess it could work for some people. but I don't understand how.

I've never tried it, but I bet it's supposed to give you motivation to not cut. Who wants to murder a butterfly? :P

i find it better if u write the name of the person u love the most then tht might give u a reason why not to cut.

i dont see the butterfly as an actual butterfly, just as another bad drawing.
^^
that's the reason it doesnt work for me :P

Then what about getting some of those temporary tattoos? That might work, and they can be really pretty! (and they'd last longer than just ink)

One thing that might help is putting the butterfly in the spots where you cut most often. Seeing the butterfly when you go to cut will remind you how much you want to quit.
