Ok this might well have been asked before and I dunno if this is the right place to ask (so mods feel free to move) but...

Does anyone else think Teen Mom and Sixteen and Pregnant, etc might actually be promoting the idea that becoming a young mom is acceptable and that in the end everything will work out for you?

I mean like I'm not against the idea of having kids early IF you are ready but I dont think some of the true hardships of being a parent are shown. Hell if its not been planned and thought out and that just what life are these kids and their babies gonna have? But oh no so things look good for tv everything seems to work out ok in the end :what:

I think those shows do glamorize teen pregnancies. I personally am against having kids at 16. Most 16 year olds I know, myself included, aren't mentally ready for having a child. The shows make it seem so amazing and wonderful in the end, like you said. I agree with you.

This is sort of a debate and will be moved to ROTW.

I read/heard somewhere (I might be wrong, the source could have been crap) that the rate of teen pregnancy has actually dropped.

I have mixed feelings about the show. On one hand, it shows the bad side of the pregnancies, the strain it puts on relationships with just about everything. The difficulties with school after getting pregnant, that sort of thing.

And yet, there are a lot of girls who want to be on TV. "Oh, if I get pregnant, I'll just apply for 16 and Pregnant!" You know?

Exactly.I don't find these shows appealing at all,I find them very disgusting, and very sad.I wish it could be more obvious that being a teen and pregnant is NOT a good thing.

I also heard that teen pregnancies have gone down(i think because of the promotion of safe sex).My mom always told me,I can't support a kid so I better be wrapping my willy if I do anything stupid xD(she didn't really say that, she just said safe sex is always better :P).

Sadly on the other hand,my friend and all her friends seem to love the show. Some people in my state aren't the sharpest tool in the shed though.I can kinda see how it promotes teen pregnancy, but it shows the bad of it too. It's a rather touchy topic. All though I don't think another parent group should try to ban it(I wouldn't care honestly though ^^ )

Never heard of shows like that. Damn, I should start watching TV...

^This. Some kids just don't know what they are getting themselves into. That is just sad.
To be honest, it is not the show's fault if girls purposefully get themselves pregnant after watching it. Their parents are to blame.
I think lack of morality or importance for sex is what promotes it. Yes, perhaps this is what some of the media is pushing, but I don't really pay that much attention.

I think the show promotes teen pregnancy.

If you can emotionally and financially handle having a child, then so-be-it. Go for it. If you're not, I recomend adoption.
Abortion is a no-no. You brought the child halfway into the world because you wanted pleasure, and if you kill it, you're a murderer. BUT. If you've been raped, then (in my opinion) abortion is the only thing i'd do.

I heard that girls were actually getting pregnant just to get on the show in stuff like that so in a way its promoting having a kid at a young age

I don't think those shows promote that but, I do beleve they sure glamorize it by showing desperate young girls looking for fame that they can get it just by getting pregnant.. Just the other day one of the girls tried to kill herself because they don't think: once those cameras leave and all the money you got is all gone that they still have that child to take care of.
