View Full Version : Finger lengths and sexuality

I was reading this interesting article about research that was done on a link between the length of your fingers and your sexuality (among other things, like personality, predisposition to certain diseases, etc.) and I was just curious how that actually plays out, if it is actually correct most of the time. I'm sure it is accurate for some and isn't for others, but I'm curious as to around HOW accurate it is.

Look at your fingers, and pay attention to the relationship between your ring finger and your index finger. Which one is longer? Are they the same length?

Men
Ring finger is longer - Heterosexual
Index finger is longer - Homosexual

Women
Both fingers are the same length - Heterosexual
Ring finger is longer - Homosexual

It doesn't say anything about women with a longer index finger though.

The reason I'm actually posting this is that my ring finger is longer, meaning for me, this is actually accurate. I was expecting it to be just a made up thing as well, like the earring thing with guys.

Apparently, the length of your fingers is linked to the amount of testosterone that you were exposed to in the womb. So that's how this came about to be tested I guess.

It also includes that there are different traits, for instance, that most girls whose index finger is longer than their ring finger are exceedingly feminine, while girls with fingers of the same length are typical, and girls whose ring finger is longer are more masculine. I'm on the fence about this one. I'm not exactly your picture of a typical or overly feminine girl, but I'm not overly masculine as well. Which leads me to doubt this a bit.

I've searched a lot about this topic and I have to say that it's not that accurate at all...
My index finger is longer and I consider my self bi-curious while a friend of mine is gay and he has his ring finger longer than his index one. Also many friends of mine also have their index finger longer and they consider themselves straight.I notice sometimes the fingers of the pornostars when I watch gay porn and there some of them who have their index finger longer and some others who don't but you can't know if they are completely gay or they do it for money! :P I've also read that they say that in men it doesn't matter 'cause they made a survey and they found out that the ones with their index finger longer weren't gay at all! As for women on the other hand they found out that, that thing with the fingers is accurate about the sexuality thing!
Oh and I also wanted to say that they say that in both sexes the ones who have their index finger bigger (like me) are better with languages and stuff while the ones with their ring finger bigger are better with maths, physics etc.I don't know if it is completely accurate though...What I DO know is that I suck in maths! :P

My index finger is sliiiiiightly longer than my ring finger. But you don't have to be masculine to be a lesbian, so I wouldn't say that this is really accurate. I'm sure it's accurate for some people, but what good is that? It's interesting though :P

My ring finger is very slightly longer than my index finger but I'm heterosexual @[email protected]

My ring finger is barely longer than my index. I'm mostly a gay male, soo... :l
I've done this with my friends and they all say it's inaccurate because they usually turn out gay, but who am I to know if they're not hiding?

my ring finger is a bit longer than my index and I'm gay, so not true for me

you know there was also some study (saw it on Ellen?) where if a guys ring finger is longer than their index, they are probably very attractive
this also is supposed to be because of exposure to testosterone in the womb

Totally bogus. I'm bi and my ring finger is longer.

My Index finger is noticeably longer and I am Gay. So this is accurate for me^_^. Though it does sound pretty unscientific.

i think this isnt real and a load of crap becoming straight, gay bi , lezibian is all to do with hormones and physcological things chemcials that register in the brain of your likes/dislikes so this has nothing to do with how long your finger is i think this something to do with a erm a fortune teller type person but if you believe in stuff then its it up to you but in my personal opion is bogus

This is a bullshit study. My ring finger is longer, and I am pansexual.

My index finger is longer than my ring finger by quite a lot. However I wouldn't say I'm really exceedingly feminine, so yeah that didn't work to well for me.
I don't know it's an interesting study but I don't put much faith in it, I would presume it to be just coincidence when it is accurate.

I'm gay and both of my ring fingers are longer.

well there is one quite large flaw in this theory.... that is that it does not include all sexualities such as bisexual and transgender. so tbh I personally think this is a load of ball crap

Erm... my index finger is longer than my ring finger on my left hand... so that'd mean i'm really feminine? :P Yet on my right hand they're the same length...

I wouldn't take that as the reason. I think it's interesting that most of the bisexuals so far have fingers that point to homosexuality, according to the theory. Transgender is the state of having a mental gender different from the physical gender, and since finger length is a physical characteristic, I would probably look only at the physical details. So far though, all the inaccuracies are in males, so maybe differences in testosterone levels in the womb don't affect males as much as it does females? All in all, I was just curious to see what the results would be here.

It's different on both of my hands... and I'm asexual.

Well, on both hands they're the same length. I'm straight and neighter "feminine" or "masculine". So it's all true on me.. xD

i heard that for men, if the ring finger was longer that meant you were gay and i am and my ring finger is longer but i don't really believe the finger length myth

Somehow, I doubt that one. Simply because hormones don't change ones personality [See; transgender], though they may impact some expression.

I'm a rather feminine lesbian, and I'd say it's about even on both hands. Honestly these things are a very basic generalization, rather than much real science.

We may as well go around judging guys dicks on their shoes if we're gonna call this a deciding factor for gaydar :P

Well technically both my fingers are the same size...But then my ring finger might be slightly longer.
But anyway I'm pretty sure I'm a lesbian, so its accurate.
