So this is my second year at A-level (which is basically my final year at high school) and I've continually failed at my maths GCSE scoring just a couple marks below a C with a D. Yesterday I only found out my Maths exam would have been this morning, but I skipped it because I haven't had time to look or even think maths, since December. The chances of me even getting it were slim, but I kind of feel guilty for not going to it. I've been trying to repeat it for two years now but just haven't been able to donate any substantial time to it because of my other work.

If you're not going to use maths in your job, it won't be that important. You'll want a B at GCSE for most good jobs though - there are some sites online that offer GCSE Maths courses. It's not too hard, really. I'm doing my Maths GCSE in one year, and have got A*s in Unit 1 / Unit 2 and have the Unit 3 exam in a couple of weeks. It just requires a little revision and concentration when you're doing it so you remember.

Perhaps I did not emphasise enough on the amount of coursework that is required of you at this stage in life, I have other things to do which are more important to my education, therefore I'm passing you off as not know what you're talking about.

Not necessarily a B, a C will get you into most courses that you'd want from university fine, I'm probably going to end up repeating it in college, maybe take a gap year if I have to if I can't get into university. I'm on A's at A level so it's kind of annoying, that this is holding me back.

A C would be alright - it does class as a 'good' GCSE. A B would, of course, be nicer though. Do you have a lot of work to do over the Summer? Maybe you could do a quick course through there.. have a look at this:

http://www.icslearn.co.uk/gcse-A-level/gcse/gcse-mathematics/

"The examination for Units 1 and 2 can take place from November 2010 but Unit 3 can not be sat until June 2012. If you require certification in 2011 please contact the ICS course advisers on 0800 056 3983 to discuss the options available."

You could probably get it done in a year. I definitely wouldn't take a gap year off for it though.

If you want I'd be more than happy to help you with any problems in Maths you may have. I mightn't be 100% able to help, like, but I shall still try.

If you post on a forum that you havent looked at your course work since December what do you expect. You want a 'poor you' pity post. This thread is irrelevant.

I wasn't looking for anything when I posted this and why the fuck would I be asking for anyone's sympathy? What makes you think I need it? You know nothing about me or my motives. VT was the first place to know of my decision and I stand by it, as by ignoring it I was able to study for more important exams on the horizon. I don't even know why I posted it I just felt like voicing my decision as I made it during the dead of night.

This thread is not irrelevant, this is in the Education and Careers section, there is no sign that says, this is a black and white section where you must be asking questions related to your future plans and move on.

maybe, but that reasoning stops sounding quite as good when in context of you not having looked at the work for 6 months. there's no amount of coursework at any level of school (including university) that would account for that on its own; clearly you have some other things you could be doing better. no?

also, math may or may not be as important as other things, but can you finish having failed (not taken) the final? if not, that seems kind of important...

I think you shouldn't just skip it because you don't think you'll do good, you can always try!As Onetwo said,"time to kick ur self in the bum and get your poop together."

I've been thinking about skipping my last GCSE mathematics exam because the module is too hard, but I think I can only do my best so if I fail, I fail.

I wouldn't recommend skipping it for the first time as it's an extremely important exam to have. I skipped it because I've honestly grew tired of constantly failing it from not having enough time to spare that would be adequate for studying it, which is better spent on studying my business and ICT courses, which demands much more attention.

I hate to think that I've aided in encouraging someone into skipping their exams from my own decisions.
