Ok im really sorry about this everyone but here comes another dumbass question. :?
The scrolly thing (its kinda like a little wheel) inbetween the two buttons on my mouse has stopped working. Last night, it literally just stopped. It still scrolls but the screen doesnt move with it....at all.....
I was just wondering if it could be that it needs cleaned or something? and if so how do i do that without breaking it....i tried lifting up the buttons but im scared in case they break :? ...
I would really appreciate any help what so ever...
Thanks :D

How old is it? Do you use it alot, if so is it rubber?
Last question, is it still making a sound when you scroll?

yeah, it seems like a wire disconected or could u have spilled liquid on it? That could short out the mouse.... (Is this the ridiculously stupid thing that i was wating for  )

If it was disconnected, the whole mouse wouldn't work, and it would be probably a droplet of water that would only short the scroll. I spilt a whole cup of pepsi on my mouse and it still works, my old keyboard doesn't though :?

It's just worn out. I suggest getting a new one. If you have a mechanical mouse (A ball on the bottom of it) try getting an optical mouse. Also, for a last try, blow hard on the port and end of the wire and see if it will work.

its either that its worn out, or if it still rotates smoothly, it might be that the software for it (drivers) got uninstalled or corrupt.
in any case, if ur having trouble with that mouse, then i recommend getting a cat

the scroller in a mouse is a small POT / Potentiometer and I have yet to see water short one out.
the clickers or button are small microswitches and can wear out over time. also if some water gets into the switch it can connect the terminals and make the mouse act like the button is being held down untill the water dries up.
in the scroller, the POT can stop working because dust and other stuff gets into the slider contacts. usually canned air wont fix this as the POTs are realled pritty good
im not sure if www.howstuffworks.com has anything about mouses but you can try searching them
i say get a new mouse, they are not that expensive. :D

oh yea, ive had many dell mouses and i only use tem for a year before the scroll wheel starts to get hard to turn.
when this happens, toss the mouse and buy another.
i got an optical mouse for $10 at staples and that was 3 years ago. its still working great and all now

i would so recommend going with the Logitech MX510 performance! (red or blue) i have the MX500, and the only difference is the megapixels (i think) and the design of it. (its made for gaming more than for regular power users)

if you would have just said "ball mouse" you could have saved 7 words :?
