I am a Jr. In HS abd We are having a student debate on whether or not we are forced to shower after gym or not, just wondering what you guys think, personally, I think we should have a choice.

It's probably better that they're forced to. That being said, choice is good but it should be encouraged. No one likes smelly kids after gym.

At my school we're not required to, but I do. I mean i dont know about other guys but i get pretty rank pretty quick. And it sucks being stuck near some dude who stinks of body odour.

If you are really smelly then yea obv take a shower nobody wants to be "that smelly kid", but in my school we don't have showers so a shit load of deoderant does us fine

in my opinion it should be optional and no one should be forced to do it if they dont want to, but be ready to face the consequences for whatever you choose

At my school showering was an opinion and when people did take a shower they were passed off as being gay so nobody took one. Don't know how being clean makes you gay?

At the end of the day, making it optionable is the best way to go. The cons outweigh the pros on forceful showers.

Showers are optional at my school but basically everyone showers after sports practices and most guys do after PE. But some guys think a ton of deoderant works but it doesn't. And it sucks having to sit next to someone who reeks in class the rest of the day, so I kinda think mandatory would be better.

This isn't a puberty question, more of a debate.

at my school a shower is required after PE and it's a group shower, no cubicles. most boys don't care about showering together

Exactly, this is how it is at my school. It's aggravating. I wish it was required so that I could shower without being the gay one.

Yes, it should be promoted because most guys smell after gym, but guys should have privacy by means of different boots or divisions for each.. but still it's according to school budget.. :)

No way you should not be forced! I mean obviously it should be drilled into you that you shower but purely for hygiene reasons....why do you want to smell?

we have to at our school. no big deal and at least the school doesn't stink.

to stink or not to stink, that is the question.

I think it should be required. It wasn't at my school and almost nobody showered, but what cons other than restricting choice are there to requiring showers, exactly? Publix showering is no big deal, hygiene is important, and kids should do it. Since they often don't, I see no problem with requiring it.

at my school we didn't have too, in fact the only people to ever use them were the sports teams...everyone else just brought deodorant and stuff

It shouldn't be forced, but should be highly encouraged. Teenagers smell, everyone knows that. By the time a person is 13 or 14, they should know that personal hygiene is an important thing. Taking showers every day is important. No one wants to hang around the person who smells like they just went dumpster diving. After gym, it's just as important. Being forced into the showers isn't right by any means, but it does need to be encouraged for hygienic purposes.

Umm well to force it is kinda silly, but I believe toy should shower, because I find that really gross to get all sweaty and then just go back to school xD.I'm starting highschool next year and I'm sure I'll a little nervous when I shower too..

We don't have enough time in the period to shower. Classes are 45 minutes long, and gym class is short as it is (about five minutes to get dressed before and after). No one gets excessively sweaty that a shower is necessary, seeing as gym is only about 35 minutes of light jogging, some warm-ups, and whatever sport we signed up for. Deodorant is usually used after, but since gym is my last class of the day, it's not that big a deal.

It shouldn't be forced, but encouraged.

I haven't been in a gym class (Yet) that even uses showers, but I'm sure if I do take that class, I won't be using the shower. Not because I like being disgusting, but mainly because I'm not the kind of person who sweats up a storm and smells. And because it would just be one big awkward situation for everybody.

Encouraged, but not required.

i don't quite get why it should be awkward. lots of guys shower naked from a relatively young age with no problem. the angst and embarrassment only seems to start in high school. so why not require showers for the first couple of years untiol the habit is ingrained.?

I also think students should just be encouraged- not forced. But they should have like 10 or 15 minutes to do this. Students don't get enough time as it is.

But then what about exchange students or people from completely different countries with different cultures?

well here in the UK we only have to shower if we are doing swiming but we have very short pe lessons like 50 minutes and a good 20 is taken up by changing so we do not have to shower and we are never really encourged to.

but i beleive that due to the fact none of us are really that sweaty and its never that hot in the uk anyway well at least scotland isnt its fine with just deordrant.

and i do not think i have ever sat beside someone who really smells

Teenagers smell, everyone knows that. By the time a person is 13 or 14, they should know that personal hygiene is an important thing. Taking showers every day is important.

No one wants to hang around the person who smells like they just went dumpster diving.Since 17, I was showering 2 times a day, and I still smelled. Now, I now know that showering everyday is useless, you will smell in any way. Deodorant? Ha! It's a joke product. Plus, you are saving the environment hippy-style.

I shower every four day, or whenever I feel too icky. And from that experience, taking shower everyday is not important. If I reek, that's your problem. Plus, women loves a man's real scent, and not car-oil cologne.

Boy, you don't to see my underwear t-shirt underarm area(it gets yellow).

After gym, it's just as important. Being forced into the showers isn't right by any means, but it does need to be encouraged for hygienic purposes.

But yeah, after doing heavy sweaty job, it's good to have a shower. Because, you don't want to see those nasty rashes, or other fungal/bacterial infections.

But then what about exchange students or people from completely different countries with different cultures?

Not to mention that some people don't have big guns that they can be proud of.

We had probably about 10 mandatory showers in 6th grade PE. I think it was just to get everyone used to the idea. It was weird because halfway through the class the teacher just said to hit the showers. The weirdest part was waiting in line because only like 6 or 8 could do it at a time.

Other than that 50 minutes isn't really enough time especially since most things we do in PE are pretty mild.

Sports are a different story. Especially in baseball when it is getting so hot out now. Our last game we made the locker room reek!
