Allow us to be the first to announce the new VT Photography Competition!!

This is in response to a suggestion which was taken very positively. It's simple, you are given a theme, and you submit two photos you took which you feel captures the theme appropriately :) The theme for this month is:

COLOUR

You can take this theme any way you want, but there are a few general details we want you to be aware of before participating:

The entries are to be posted in this thread, directly. You can embed them. Links to photos hosted off site will not be considered.
Photos must be a maximum of 1600 pixels wide.
There must be no watermarks, etc. on the photo.
The photo must not be edited in anyway. Sharpening, etc. is allowed but severe editing won't be allowed.
Photos must adhere to all VT Rules and Regulations (http://virtualteen.org/forums/faq.php), especially those listed in this announcement (http://virtualteen.org/forums/showthread.php?t=78797).
Any attempt to persuade the judges' decision will result in your entries being forfeited. This may affect future entries, also.
You may only submit two photos. You may not edit your post to change them, as moderators we are able to see any changes made to posts so we will notice.

Entries must be submitted by Midnight (GMT) on Saturday, June 18th.. This thread will then be locked until the winner is announced. The winner will be announced during the week that follows that.

There will be no prize for the winner, as it is only a bit of fun :)

The judges will be:

Kyle (ShatteredWings) (http://virtualteen.org/forums/member.php?u=6590)
Rith (Syvelocin) (http://virtualteen.org/forums/member.php?u=16634)
Michael (Hank Scorpio) (http://virtualteen.org/forums/member.php?u=5145)

Any problems, let us know :)
The Judges.

I'm a bit confused, Michael. Colour is a property of an image, it can't really be a theme. You can't take a picture with it not fitting the "theme" of colour, whether it be colourless, colourful or just ordinary. Something a little more intuitive would be nice.

you can do lots with colour. just think about it :)

Yes, you can do lots with colour. But the fact is that ANY picture could be submitted to this contest, and it requires very little intuitivity. Themes of human emotions, feelings or dispositions are far more interesting and will result in much better photography.

But then again, this is VT you're talking about- not a city art museum hosted contest.

I think even VT is slightly above this. We have some photographers who don't just run around in fields and show off their depth of field and Canon 500Ds by taking pictures of daisies and roses before heavily PhotoShopping them... or do we?

Fine, if you are a little confused, consider taking a photo of something blatantly colourful.

But a theme of colour isn't necessarily colourful, else the theme would be colourful. The colours could be vibrant, bland, black and white, sepia... the list goes on. As aforementioned, any image would qualify.

It's the first one that's been done on VT, it probably wouldn't have been a good idea to have a really specific theme. I think it's best to have a theme, like this one, that has a really broad spectrum of ways to interpret and use it in the photo's, rather than a closed and focused theme for the very first round.

Heavily photoshopped entries will be disqualified.
Slight editing will be allowed to compensate for camera quality, some cameras come out a little washed out or a little overbright, ect.

This is a cool idea (the photography competition), but I think the theme doesn't make much sense. Plus, my view on colors is totally different from others because I have tritanopia. So while you might be looking for a rainbow variety of beautiful colors, I'd probably go nuts just trying to figure out which color works best when I can't really tell what actually looks good to most people. It's confusing for me to explain it.

Sorry if this offends you in any way. I really do like your idea, but it's just the theme is too hard for some to swallow. Or maybe just me and Jon. Maybe everyone else totally gets it and whatnot.

Reasons for entry:
Red Shoes, Emphasising one color so it stands out against it's complemetry (green).

Flowers, from a color film, Came out this color when i got it back from processing. Awesome purple tone, Flowers and surroundings were these tones.

Thanks. :)

^This. I get people might think it's too vague and subjective to have as a theme, but that's the whole point. This is the first competition, having a broad theme tests the waters so to speak. Just submit whatever photo you think captures the theme. We're not judging on how closely the photo[s] adhere to the theme specified, I probably should have said that from the off, so just submit whatever you think is appropriate.

Don't. Actually, seeing color differently might lead to a more unique photo.

Since this is the first time VT has done any endeavour like this, it's best this time that we keep it wholly staff run for now. That's not to say that you aren't appreciated, like. It is all your idea like, no one elses!

What it sounded like when we were discussing it was not cutting things and editing together pictures, major photoshopping and such. I personally don't see anything wrong with a colour splash entry. It's the same type of editing really that would regularly be allowed, only concentrated. They can be very appealing when done right. But I may be the only one, so don't take my word for it.

I'm a bit confused, Michael. Color is a acreage of an image, it can't absolutely be a theme. You can't yield a account with it not applicable the "theme" of color, whether it be colorless, colorful or just ordinary. Something a little added automatic would be nice...

How do I put the pictures I want to enter in a post/reply like this (Sorry, I'm new) ?

SosbanFach

Im no photographer, but here are my attempts

2956
The bright golden sun peering through the dark storm clouds at sunset, casting gold streaks through the water.
Finally,

2959
The line of brown cuts through the green trees, and the late afternoon sun, in my opinion, enhances the lighting, with the huge looming shadow in the foreground.

Upload to an image sharing site (Photobucket, Flickr, ImageShack) and post the img link.

Or attach using the "manage attachment" button under the post when you go to "go advanced" creating a post

OKAY. So after months of deliberation we've managed to pick the top 3 photos from those that were sent to us. Thanks for participating, and although many of you have now forgotten about this competition, we thank you all for taking part :D

So.

First Place (we did a voting system whereby we assigned 5 points to our favourites and so on) was joint, so the winners are, in no particular order:

Frostbite's First pic. (http://fc06.deviantart.net/fs70/i/2011/164/b/2/paint_by_rutilaecomae-d3itjo4.jpg)
