Ok, so I put this in a post, and I really think it's good idea and should be spread around a lot more. My friend told me about it, it works, for me. But it'll be different for different people.

The Butterfly Project:
The Rules are:
1. When you feel like you want to cut, take a marker, pen, or sharpies and draw a butterfly on your arm or hand.
2. Name the butterfly after a loved one, or someone that really wants you to get better, or even just give it a name, someone who you care for.
3. You must let the butterfly fade naturally. NO scrubbing it off, try make it live as long as possible.
4. If you cut before the butterfly is gone, you’ve killed it. If you dont cut, it lives, and it fly's away into happiness.
5. If you have more than one butterfly, cutting kills all of them.
6. Another person may draw them on you. These butterflies are extra special. Take good care of them.
7. Even if you don’t cut, feel free to draw a butterfly anyways, to show your support. If you do this, name it after someone you know that cuts or is suffering right now, and tell them. It could help.

I've tried it, I mean I stupidly cut last night for the first time in ages (and completely regret it) now I have this butterfly on my hand, Joey :3.

Anyone wanna try it with me?<3

This is amazing and I wish I had somehting like this when I cut, of course I would draw a butterfly on myself, would have for somethingelse for a guy. I pretty much stopped cold turkey. I would encourage this to anyone and I love how it works.

This is a really great idea, and would work well. I Just think most guys walking around with butterflies on their arms would take a bit of ridicule, and I can't really think of a more masculine alternative. Still, this is an awesome idea.

Yeh, it's a really great idea :). I did think of it being a bit sexist, but I couldn't really think of another alternative either :s. Good luck people!

I cut on wednesday (last wednesday) for the first time so now i have to find an alternative.... I CAN NOT cut cut for at least 2 weeks because of sports and people noticing but I've asked for advice from a friend who has experience with it and watching movies and keeping yourself busy can help, this is really going to help me although I'm not sure I should draw a butterfly on my arm because people already think I'm gay, which I'm not but I'm bi but dont tell anybody.... Anyways what do you think guys can draw on their arms?

Would it be possible for a guy to draw something like a smiley face on their arm instead of a butterfly? Or perhaps a cartoon character or something? It might not be as good as the butterfly, but it could cut down on teasing and embarrassment.

Because of this me and a friend, are both getting butterfly tattoos on our ankle/leg, but only when we're both ready to actually fully stop.
