How do I get that system specs screen on Windows?

Go to Start, Right click on 'Computer', then go to Properties. Click on your Windows Experience Index, then click on 'View and print detailed performance and system information' to get to that detailed screen.

Hmm... A few things:

•12 cores is ridiculous, only necessary for web and game servers. Nothing uses more than 6 cores.
•32nm i3-5-7 processors are faster than 45 nm and up, including Xeon, 2600K easily reaches 4.2 on stock cooling
•I don't even under stand the RAM, fubar
•AMD Radeon 6690's (typo?) will bottleneck your 12 core so severely my pentium would perform better with a GT240
•AMD Radeon does not support SLI, neither does ATi
•You need four nvidia card for quad SLI
•I suggest dual 6970's, in CrossfireX mode
•I cba to research your MB, so blah

I love our imaginations. I hope you were joking. ;)

Well I do plan on upgrading my emachines PC, a bit more realistic.
•i5-2400 OC 3.9GHZ with H50-1 cooler
•MSi Z68MA-G45 Socket 1155 MB
•Team Elite 8GB dual channel ram DDR3 1333MHz
•Powercolor 6770 1GB, slower than a 5770 but it's single slot and newer technology

$500 :3

And then upgrading my mother's M1330,
•New motherboard, current one is dead
•hopefully around a 2.5GHz dual core, haven't done much research yet

Anyway, my WEI has improved a little bit, and I've finally completed my build fully. So I'll go ahead & list all the parts I have installed, as well as provide an updated WEI image. :P

Case: Antec Nine Hundred
Motherboard: ASUS P6X58D-E
CPU: Intel Core i7-960 (Bloomfield) currently @3.2GHz, thinking about overclocking it.
-- Upgraded cooling: Cooler Master Hyper 212 Plus -- Using Arctic Silver 5 to marry it to the CPU
PSU: Corsair HX850 - 850W - 80+ GOLD certified.
RAM: Corsair XMS3 (3 x 2GB for a total of 6GB)
Graphics card: ASUS ENGTX460 (Fermi), with 1GB of 256-bit GDDR5
Sound card: Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Titanium. (Fatal1ty Champion Series)
Primary boot drive (C:\): Western Digital Caviar Black 1TB (7200 RPM)
Primary storage drive (H:\): Western Digital Caviar Green 1TB (5400 RPM)
Secondary drive (D:\): Western Digital Caviar Green 1TB (5400 RPM) in a Western Digital Element 3.5" Black External Enclosure.
DVD Drive: ASUS DRW-24B1ST DVD Burner

As far as peripherials;
Primary Monitor: Dell S2309W (DVI) @ 1920x1080
Secondary Monitor: Dell E196FP (VGA) @ 1280x1024
Keyboard: Microsoft Natural Keyboard 4000
Mouse: Microsoft Wireless Laser Mouse 6000
Speakers: Logitech G51 5.1 155W surround sound system.
Webcam: Microsoft Lifecam Cinema HD
Joystick: Logitech 963290-0403 Extreme 3D Pro
Controller: Xbox 360 White Wired controller
Printer: Lexmark x3350

There, I believe that's everything. :P

So, I've added & changed a few things from here.

My primary boot drive is now a Corsair Force GT 120 GB SSD.
That WD Black drive has been re-configured as my games & applications drive. It's also where my temp folders are at.
I have added an additional 6GB of RAM, for a total of 12GB.
I decided to overclock my CPU, just barely though. Nudged it up to 3.5GHz.

And as always, a new WEI:
http://societyunderground.net/wei.png

Edit: Oh, and as far as peripherials go, I now use the Sennheiser HD 280 PRO headphones for when I'm doing late-night things. (Or even mid-day things, I'm starting to /really/ like these headphones. :P )

Ummm no...?
I don't understand what you're asking. Do you want to know how many instructions can be executed per second? In that case, yes, you would multiply GHz times # of cores.

Usually, that number isn't very important, unless you are developing a BIOS or an operating system kernel.

No, The clock speed of your CPU is measured by a multiple call the DEC or DIC number. On my i7 its default at x35 so 3500/35 = the FSB speed :)

I just acquired some new(old) hardware! :D

Processor: PentiumI 66MHz
Memory: 64MB of some sort
Motherboard: "Spacewalker"-something
Graphics: Diamond Video (I think it has 1MB dedicated VRAM)
OS: Whatever I can get running on it :P Slackware Linux comes to mind.
Harddrive: None until I can get something compatible with a 1995 BIOS. Probably going to be a SCSI drive with ~20GB(if I can map the sectors etc correctly).

I'll probably give up after a while, but oh well :P

So, I've added & changed a few things from here.

My primary boot drive is now a Corsair Force GT 120 GB SSD.
That WD Black drive has been re-configured as my games & applications drive. It's also where my temp folders are at.
I have added an additional 6GB of RAM, for a total of 12GB.
I decided to overclock my CPU, just barely though. Nudged it up to 3.5GHz.

And as always, a new WEI:
image (http://societyunderground.net/wei.png)

Edit: Oh, and as far as peripherials go, I now use the Sennheiser HD 280 PRO headphones for when I'm doing late-night things. (Or even mid-day things, I'm starting to /really/ like these headphones. :P )

Only 3 things have changed from here; I switched out my monitors, I got a new mouse, and I got a new printer.
I'm now using two 24" Asus LED LCD monitors, these to be exact: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824236102
I'm now using a Logitech G9x gaming mouse as my mouse: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16826104261
And for anyone that cares, I now have a Samsung CLX-3185FW color laser printer. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16828112239

And for giggles, a new WEI: http://societyunderground.net/wei2.png

Case: Antec Nine Hundred
Motherboard: ASUS P6P67 WS Revolution
CPU: Intel Core i7-2600K @ 3.4Ghz
Cooler: Thermalright Silver Arrow SB-E
PSU: Enermax Gold Modu87+ 600W
RAM: Corsair XMS3 2x4GB 1600

Storage drives: 3x Seagate SpinPoint F4 1TB
Primary display: NEC PA301W 30"
DVD Drive: Pioneer DVR-117 (very old, yeah, but still working :) )

The storage drives are formatted under Linux SoftRaid as a RAID-5 array - 128GB on each being reserved for NTFS and OSX partitions. SSD is split half-win7, half linux.

I don't think I've bought any of those parts at their normal prices - I always buy during sales. I don't think my whole budget would have allowed me to buy the screen at its prime price :)

Going to upgrade my iMac with hardware that's more modern, heres a quote from my update log I have set up, the cables and adapters are for hooking up the side ports so they're usable, if anyone can suggest a motherboard, please tell me.
EDIT: This post was written with the assumption the iMac was a "newer" one where it took the appearance of a small thick flat screen, if it's one of the old super colorful ones my advice doesn't hold, but some of it is still true.

What? I didn't check to see if you had posted what you already have, but I have to assume its an All In One iMac seeing as how you called it an iMac and not a Mac Pro (the tower version). If this is the case, you're not going to be able to upgrade it the way you're hoping.

Unless they've changed, macs don't use Motherboards as non-apple people know them, they use their own version called Logic Boards. These are built specifically to fit into each model of computer very carefully. The only way you're going to get an i7 into your mac is by buying another iMac, ripping it apart, praying everything is the right size, ripping your own apart and trying to smash the new one where the old one fit.

As for a new screen, same deal, the case is built to fit that screen and that screen almost exclusively. You're better off checking to see if your computer has a video out and buying a new, nice monitor and essentially turning your iMac into a tower that houses the connectors, and using an external monitor.

The cords I'm a little confused by, I guess you're saying that you're going to run the cords inside the housing from the new board to the holes on the side so that they act "functional"? I don't know about macs, but in my windows PC the motherboard butts right against the side of the case for the I/O panel. I'd have to guess its the same for macs, meaning IF YOU DID manage to fit a new logic board in there, I doubt there would be enough room to run all those cables. Ignore the ones you don't need, like firewire and phone line. Run 1 USB to an external hub or something.

TLDR: If you have an iMac that consists of everything housed in the flat panel screen housing, I wouldn't bother attempting this.

You should grab a 7970 in my opinion over a 7950. I do a bunch of PC builds on my YT channel www.youtube.com/sethfitzgeraldhd

You would be better off with just 8gb RAM and a 7970 since upgrading RAM is the easy part of a build. Plus bump up that PSU to at least 800w Gold.

Well, my rig is about two years old now, so don't judge. I also built it myself, saved a few thousand bucks.

i7 980X @ 4.27GHz
Corsair Hydro H50 closed loop cooler
2x GTX 480 @ 800/1600/2000 in SLI (One is ASUS, one is MSI)

ABS Majesty 1100W PSU
Coolermaster HAF 932 Blue LED Edition

Razer Lachesis mouse
Razer Lycosa keyboard
Samsung SyncMaster 23" 1920x1080 monitor

total cost: ~$4000

It took a while to afford, but I pulled out all the stops. Would I have changed a few things? Hell yes. I can't say enough bad things about GTX 480s. They are the loudest, hottest cards ever invented. That being said, they perform admirably. But the fact that it's ROUTINE for these cards to get to 100C, especially when overclocked, is ridiculous. I wish I'd waited a few months and picked up some 580s. But now that I have 2 480s I'm considering picking up another (used) unit for tri-SLI. These cards go for right around nothing, so it's worth the pain.

On my main desktop, I have:
- a 2.8GHz Pentium Dual-Core E6300 Wolfdale (basically a poor man's Core 2 Duo)
- a 512MB Radeon HD 4650 videocard built by Sapphire
- 4GB of Corsair XMS DDR2 ram
- two 500GB hard drives (one built by Samsung, the other by Seagate)
- a Gigabyte GA-G31M-ES2L motherboard
- a Cooler Master Storm Scout case
- Windows XP Home SP3 (still beats the living crap out of Vista and 7)

I built this system three years ago for TF2, and so far it's been working pretty well :D

My laptop's specs are much lower (since it's 8 freakin' years old XD), but it still works pretty well for playing older games and surfing the web. Anyhow, it's an Acer Travelmate 4502Lmi with:

- 2GB of either Crucial or Kingston DDR SODIMM ram (I can't remember which of the two brands it is)
- a 1.6GHz Pentium M (probably one of the best non-64bit, singlecore CPUs out there)
- an 80GB Hitachi (I think) harddrive
- onboard Intel graphics
- Windows XP Home SP3/Crunchbang Linux (Windows for gaming, Linux for the web)
