I think punk is dead, but similar genres such as punk rock are taking its place.

green day arent punk, they are punk rock or pop punk. Punk is the sex pistols, the clash, the ramones etc. Punk is dead, long live punk rock

I can easily say which bands are punk rock and which ones just suck. Sum 41,
Early Green Day, early Blink 182, Bowling for Soup, The Clash, Billy Talent, Rancid, Reel Big Fish, The Ramones, Buzzcocks, The Misfits, NOFX, Sex Pistols, Good Charlotte are okay. Bands that are emo pop posers: Fall Out Boy, Simple Plan, Red Jumpsuite Apperatus, The Almost, Yellowcard, New Found Glory, Relient K are MTV top 40 bubblegum pop.!

The band I bolded, yeah that's about the only Punk Rock group you listed.
Know what you're talking about before you even come close to insulting MTV.

Early Green Day = Fast Alternative Rock
Bowling for Soup (unfamiliar with too much, not sure enough to categorize)
The Clash = Founding Punk, even though they PLAYED light rock.
Billy Talent = Alternative Rock
Rancid = PUNK with elements of rock but not enough to constitute "punk rock"
Reel Big Fish....ARE YOU KIDDING?!. That's 3rd wave SKA buddy.
Ramones = see the clash
Buzzcocks, hmm haven't listened to them in long enough to know.
The Misfits = Horror Punk.
Good Charlotte = rock, it's not even alternative :/

and just to prove my point, copied this post from the other punk topic I made

To people claiming punk is dead, NO. Mainstream punk is dead (Sex pistols/ramones/exploited) BUT, you clearly don't realize that that's the point? Punk was created to go against the mainstream, when these bands became mainstream, they lost their fan base in the underground scene's. Punk is fuckin alive, hell I just got back from a Punk show 2 hours ago. The difference is, local punk lives, it's not mainstream. Every neighbourhood has a punk scene, the key part is not being 14 and fucking finding it.

Stop jumping on the "punk is dead" bandwagon. THE MEDIA JUST CAN'T FIND IT. Hell, one of the bands in my city made their own recording label for punk in the tri-city area. I have over 30 punk CD's scattered around my computer.
When I ask someone if they've heard of "The Nummies, Hands of the Few, The Sewer Rats, The Gutter Demons" many say no, CUZ PUNK IS UNDERGROUND.
