I don't know if this is really what you're looking to hear, but seriously, don't try it. I know it might sound tempting, but grab it by the neck while you still haven't done it. What you should do now is find something healthier to try instead. Like exercise, or a hobby. It is the easiest not to cut before you even start, and after that, it'll become harder and harder to quit because it really is an addiction, like a drug. You won't be able to stop easily. It's a destructive habit that not only permanently scars your skin, but tears apart your social relationships and will make it hard to do other things, like getting a job in a serious career, dating, and just imagine having kids one day and having to explain to them why your arms are lined with scars.

It's not worth it. It's a five minute release. And then it's just followed by guilt and disappointment, and your problems are still not solved.

You just need to look around this forum to see how much of a mess it makes of people's lives. It's really not worth it, and however tempting it is now is nothing compared to how tempting it'll be after you've done it, and the temptation will only get stronger.

In the end you have to stop though, and you have to go through resisting even harder temptation than you started with. Not only that but you have scars, and you've spent years never wearing short sleeves, or going swimming or doing anything that could show you scars, and likely those scars will never go.

It's really not worth it, believe me.

it's a good thing you're afraid now becuase if you start now, you'll get addicted and maybe constanly cut.

I think distraction is the best way to put off urges.
You don't even have to decide not to do it, just decide to not do it right at that moment. Put it off. Exercise, like you said. Watch a movie. Do homework. Tell yourself that you'll cut later. Keep pushing it back until you simply don't have the urge anymore.

I'm going to agree that distraction would probably be the best thing to do to avoid the urges. You can do anything draw, sing, listen to music, watch tv, go on the Internet. You could try writing out how you feel, or writing down why you want to cut, then look at the reasons and you'll see that none of them will be solved by cutting yourself.

If you wanted you could try other techniques such as rubbing ice where you want to cut, snapping elastic bands on your wrist, drawing in red marker. There are lots more on the Internet if you search Self Harm Distraction Techniques, those are just the common ones.

And finally I'm just going to reiterate what the others have said; Self Harm is a really bad path to go down, in the long run it doesn't help it just gives you another problem to deal with. All the secrets, lies, and other stress it causes. You end up with a whole lot of scars and still the same problems.

Well i'm glad you've seen sense :) It's a horrible thing to get into, and you're better off without it however bad your life gets.

i used to do it and i was always to scared to put the blade to my wrist so i took a safety pin and dug it into my skin making it raw and keep going till i was bleeding it hurt but i did feel better. thing is cutting is only a temporary "high" its not worth the scars.
