In November San Francisco voters will choose whether circumcision for males under age 18 is banned in the city. It would become a misdemeanor and and penalties include a 1000 dollar fine.

that shouldn't pass, and would be found unconstitutional if it did, since circumcision is an important part of several religions.

What the fuck is this I don't even. One minute America is all over the idea of it and then they want bans on it. Make up your fuckin' mind.

it should pass. its not right to change someones body like that when they dont have a say in it. circumsition will affect you for the rest of your life.

It would be easier to do it as babies because I have heard that it is very painful afterwards, and we don't really process or remember these things as babies. It just doesn't make sense to me, and as David said, it is an important part of many religions.

This just seems stupid, its the families choice not the States.

Most males say they wish they had never been circumsized anyways. The whole thing about losing 33% of feeling and all...
But it's silly that they're trying to pass it.

Not negatively.

I know plenty of circumcised guys, including myself, and none think this way. In fact, I've never heard of this. Sure, some people feel this way but not most.
The only that doesn't make sense is, it is part of major religions and circumcision can be used for medical reasons, so banning it to anyone under eighteen makes no sense.

do you have some kind of evidence to back up that claim? the vast majority of people i know are happy with the way they are, one way or another.

I for one wish I wasn't... everyone I know seems to think the same.

I find it interesting that you say that because the few times this topic has come up that i've seen, everyone has either thought the opposite, or are happy with the way they are one way or another. either way, anecdotes are not evidence on either of our parts.
it's always been beyond me why people agonize over this so much. things work well both ways.

Stoning and turning albinos into magic keepsakes are important parts of religions too that doesnt make it good to do.

So I have a question, where'd that number appear from? I don't know how they compare it :P
I have 100% of my original feeling :P
*Ontopic*
Don't they have anything better to pass?
Really, if parents want their children circumcised they'll just go out of town and get it done.

Didn't read the link, but if it just outright bans it unless you're 18 then I'm against this law. I'd be for it if the age was, say 8.

No, it should be the guy who's getting part of his dick cut off's choice. Not his family's.
Not negatively.
It's estimated that circumcision kills over 100 infants a year in America. If that's not negative I don't know what it. There is no way anyone can justify involuntary, non-necessary surgery.

Unless you're uncircumcsed, no you don't. I don't know where the number came from, but it is objective fact that the heads of uncircumcised penises are more sensitive than circumcised ones.

I'm talking about people who live. Stuff like that is rare.

I disagree. Here's one potential argument:
I the hypothetical parent believe that my child would prefer to be circumcised. I believe that this surgery is far less traumatic and painful if done in infancy, as opposed to later in childhood or adulthood. Therefore, I believe circumcising my child is justified.
You can disagree with the particular application of parental autonomy here, but you cannot deny that parents make many decisions for their children that will effect them in the long term. Surgery is a big one, but not unjustifiable whatsoever.
Unless you're uncircumcsed, no you don't. I don't know where the number came from, but it is objective fact that the heads of uncircumcised penises are more sensitive than circumcised ones.
This is one of the worse arguments people trot out. No, it's proved that nerve endings get removed. There is absolutely no objective proof that the feeling is worse or different, and in fact studies have routinely suggested the opposite - that there is little or not discernible difference in perceived sensitivity.

Who cares?
Then why the fuck did you bring it up? I'm not talking about not even a percent of children whom are circumcised dying from being circumcised. One could argue that because children who are not circumcised are caused trauma by phimosis. That's your argument, basically.
