Indecision

Okay, so after i've taught myself to play the guitar, i'm looking to write and make my own songs.
Thing is, whenever I play them, they're either too sad or they all sound the same. I'm looking for some different lyrics to play, anyone got any ideas?!
I would like it somehow to follow along the lines of someone who's been there for you, through hot and cold, through happy and sad. Then maybe one or two lyrics about how you want to repay them, how they'll never know how much they've helped, not too much of the depressing stoof though ;).
Btw - it's Acoustic.
So, anyone got any ideas?
