try sitting them down and talking to them about it, try to help them understand first. once they understand, i don't think they'll send you to a 'loony bin'.

Don't panic, it's just their initial shock. I agree have a mature chat, don't start yelling at one another, it'll make things worse. Talk them through, they're your parents they'll love you no matter what and want what's best for you, but explain your objection to the 'loony bin' I'm sure they'll support you. :) x

ya did that thanks. i have been in hospital for ed and suicide before so i think that it must have been the final thing they could take or something. unfortuantly they now seem to enjoy telling me of my "crazyness" as they call it and want me sent of somewere were real "crazy" people go as they call it as i havnt been "fixed" yet. but i think they have calmed down abit after talking to them, i hope so anyway.

It probably is just their intial shock. My parents found out about my self harm when I was taken to hospital after an overdose, so they found out about a suicide attempt and my self harm at the same time, in the middle of the night.

There first reaction was that I was stupid, and they couldn't understand why. It took them a while to get over it, but they did eventually. Just give it time.

the reason why they want to put you there is because they feel you are unsafe. assure to them that cutting isn't meant as a suicidal tendencie. my foster mom sent me to a psych ward for cutting where the dr determined i was not suicidal just stressed and was relieveing some extra tension. scared..... i guess u would be but fucked no way.. anybody who cuts is not fucked up they are just going through some tough times and cutting is there way around it so they don't have to think about it. just talk to them... tell them whats going on... tell them you don't need psychiatric help but maybe somebody to talk to... good luck hun
