Felix needs tattoo advice!

Okay, so the time has come for me to ink something permanently into my skin. The problem is, I'm having trouble narrowing down my options. Here's what I'm thinking:

1. Map of France/Cross of Lorraine - Represents my French heritage, probably one of the few things I could get that wouldn't drive my dad insane. The problem is, I don't want to look like some kind of nationalist nutcase.

2. A butterfly - classic tattoo imagery, but not a cliche. Represents the mind, the problem is, I'd need to find a way to make it not look so girly.

3. A skull, Mexican style. This one's actually WAY at the bottom of my list and is actually just an idea I'm playing with since every yokel and his dog seems to have one these days.

4. Waves - like tidal waves. I have no idea how this would look since there's a million ways this could be done. Could look pretty cool though.

The design is something I'll work on later - a friend of mine's said he'll do it for me (just the design, hes not going anywhere near me with a needle). I suppose what I'm asking for here is which one looks the least ridiculous/dated and hopefully the most original.

I'm thinking that one too, actually. The cross is what I'm nervous about, though. A lot of people aren't aware of what it represents and it also has connotations with some streams of French nationalism that I don't associate myself with. Maybe I could just stylise the map?

I'd personally go for the butterfly, having 3 of them inked already. I'd also urge a greyscale tattoo, as I think they age better - as does a nature theme.

Thanks, guys! Hm, I'm still torn. The skull and the tidal waves are now out of the picture, the first because it's a cliche and the second because... well, how the hell would that even work?

I suppose I could always get both. :P
