What is your take on it?I personally think we should educate the public on voting, then dissolve the Electoral College. We the people should have the choice who leads this country, not some wealthy elites. So what IS your take on it?

Yes, when the United States was just formed it made a lot of sense, but now since information is so easily accessible you can make an informed decision on which person you are voting for.

I wish people could wake up and see that so we can fix our goverment and work on a road to a better future.I wish.....I think if we inform people as young age maybe they'll wanna make a difference instead of keeping up Charlie Chean's tweets .....Plus the school house rock videos on the elctoral college do not help kids xD

If the United States is to ever be considered a true democracy, then it is imperative that we dissolve the Electoral College. I think it is an archaic tool from a bygone era that is now useless. It has assisted in fostering an apathetic view of voting for some Americans. Just look at the 2000 Presidential election for proof that this aged system is at best, a nuisance. Al Gore won the popular vote. Had we lived in a true democracy, he would have been President. We now have an overwhelming amount of information and opinions right at our finger tips. Voters are more well-informed and better educated. We are no longer required to have our leader elected by proxy.

Yes, we have the technology for people to have a vote for themselves rather than a representative. It will stop inaccuracies to an extent. As for how the people have been saying people are more easily/well informed, that is true, however there are still many people who are uneducated about the candidates or who don't vote at all.

It's much more complicated than that. The Electoral College's advantages don't stem from voters being too uninformed or something like that, and that's not why it exists, nowadays. Now, the empirical difference is in importance of small states, and the need to win across a wide swath of constituencies (as opposed to, say, the possibility of a President winning by getting votes only in large cities, which is actually possible with just a popular vote). I don't know where I fall on that, but there are strong arguments in favor. After all, the United States is not named idly; the country is Federalist and allowing states to play a central role in the federal electoral process is very much in keeping with the historical importance of the states themselves. The flipside is that I'm really not thrilled by the focus on swing states that the process generates in reality.

You'd need to pass a constitutional amendment. That said, I agree with Captain's line of reasoning, and feel that there is a lot to be said for keeping it.

Not sure what to vote, but I'm not sure if we should dissolve it or not.

On the one hand, people are right in that people want more voting rights and don't want wealthy elitists deciding the election, but on the other hand, there are a lot of idiots who will vote a person for stupid reasons (Example, some people voted Obama for being black, seriously?).

So while I'm not going to actively campaign for dissolving the electoral system, I don't think it's necessarily bad to go purely by popular votes, as long as we do what the OP say and educate teens about the importance of voting first.
