Does anyone know how deep you have to go scar? (I don't want scars). Also, what's the most effective way to stop bleeding?

Sorry if this is the wrong section but I thought it'd be the most appropriate.

If you don't want scars, you'll have to stick to just scratches, and letting them heal properly (I've had even scratches scar if I pick the scabs, and last around 6 months). Most of the scars I still have were decent cuts. A lot of my early, shallow cuts are gone now.

Just put pressure on them, really. That's all you can do.

Have you got any advice on how to stop picking scabs? I find it really difficult not to, I do it subconciously, a bit like biting my nails.
Thanks

I think you just have to do it in a place that isn't easily accessible to pick at.. Which is why I think my thighs heal up quicker than my arms... Rith is right, if you don't want it to scar stick to scratches.

if you don't want scars stick to light cuts or scratches and don't pick or scratch them
and if you don't want alot of blood don't put pressure on ur cuts while cutting
stick to light scratches.

I have issues with picking my scabs as well. I just got a tattoo, and it scabbed a bit, but I haven't even touched it outside of cleaning for some reason. But I know it'll most likely ruin the tattoo if I do, so that might be why I'm not doing so.

Keeping it under a bandage might help, and just take it off for the night so it can get some air, and keep it bandaged until the scabs are gone? I guess it'll take a bit of discipline.

Never fear, Im here :P

Scars Scars Scars, You can scar from any cut/graze. It all depends on your skin type and various other technical medical things. It all has to do with how quickly your body repairs itself, and if you manage it properly. DO NOT PICK :) That is almost certain to leave some mark. The wound takes a certain amount of time to fix itself, and depends on the severity. Any wound can result in a scar. Try and get some Scar oils, they really work, I had cuts all over my face from a accident, and used a product called BioOil. It worked a treat and can see nothing on my face.

To stop bleeding, remember this - RED ( The colour of Blood )

R- REST, sit down and relax. You want to slow down the blood flow, and by walking around, the blood flows more. Sit down preferably, also because if you bleed in large amounts you may faint/fall. Not always but it does happen.

E- ELEVATE, Put the area above the level of the heart. This helps slow the blood flow to the area, and thus slows down the bleeding. Whilst elevated, apply direct pressure to the area with something clean. Medical Dressing preferably. Hold it with constant pressure for roughly 10-15 minutes. DO NOT take the pressure off to peak, cause this stops the blood from clotting and will make it bleed once again.

D- DRESS, Clean and dress the wound. I would recommended for minor cuts, soap and water. Gently clean, if too hard, will upset it and it will bleed again. If major wound, keep it covered and seek Medical Aid. Put some cream on the minor wounds and cover with a appropriate dressing. Never use Peroxide and Alcohol. Its slows down the healing process and kills good cells - which bacteria then can feed on. I would recommend also salty water, it makes a great wound wash. For the Meds out there its basically Sodium Chloride (Saline).

Clean it and Cover it with a Sterile Dressing.

Notes
- If it is major, SEEK MEDICAL AID - It may need Sutures, Gluing, Proper Cleaning.
- If you cannot stop the bleeding SEEK MEDICAL AID.
- If caused by a bite from either animal or human, you need to go to a doctors in a preferably 8 Hour Period for cleaning/treatment.
- If really Dirty, Go to the Doc's for proper cleaning to prevent infection.
- Do not remove anything from it. Go to the Doctors.
- If embedded object, DO NOT REMOVE. Apply direct pressure around it and call 000/999/911 ect.
- Stock up on Medical Dressings from the market/Chemists. Really Cheap.

MONITOR FOR SIGNS OF INFECTION
-Soreness.
-Redness.
-Pus.
-Headaches.
-Smelly wound.

If any of Infection signs occur, go to a Doctors. With no treatment can result in severe problems.

The most important thing is, to stop the bleeding, clean and cover it. If you have any doubts, go to a doctors ASAP. If you have any other questions feel free to contact myself or Dimitri as either one of us can offer proper advice.

Unfortunately cuts can often leave scars especially if they are open cuts, so it's hard to tell whether a cut will leave a scar or not. The deeper and more severe a cut is the more likely it is to scar, obviously, but if it is bleeding a lot that often suggests that it's not just a light scratch- those will generally not scar.

The best, and only way, really, to stop bleeding is to apply pressure to it or elevate it, unless it is uncontrolled bleeding from a very bad cut, in which case you need to seek medical aid.
