So......

I've been thinking of replacing my Ubuntu distribution with Debian Squeeze. But I don't know.

I'm thinking of switching because my sound card does but doesn't work.
I CAN play music, but I can't adjust the volume. And Ubuntu doesn't recognize the sound card(it used to, though). None of this happens in openSuSE. By switching, maybe this will stop happening.

My computer specs (http://virtualteen.org/forums/showpost.php?p=1265674&postcount=3)
Ubuntu: 10.04LTS
openSuSE: 11.3

I prefer to have 2 different types of OS'es on my machine(rpm and deb) for package compatability.

Thanks in advance.

You realize you never actually asked a question, right? ;)

Debian's good, and very powerful, but be forewarned that it's a lot harder to configure than either Ubuntu or openSUSE.

Have you tried just messing with ALSA a bit? The problems with your sound card might just be a simple config issue.

And why do you need two distros? Couldn't you just use alien to convert the packages or complie from source?

Okay.......how hard? As hard as Windows 98? :P

Where would you find ALSA? I tried going to the Sound config, but it says "Waiting for the sound system to respond"

I tried that; it didn't work with openSuSE. But that was a while back. I'll try again later.
